** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

After trying out a Sidewinder X4 and having issues with the key spacing I decided to go all out and get a MK-85 with browns before Qpad switch to red only. It's the only keyboard I can find with illuminated keys and browns in a UK layout.

I was seriously looking at the Filco as it has a better reputation for build quality and I personally think it looks better (less is more etc.) But illumination is a must for me as I sometimes type in low light situations and I'm not good enough with touch typing to type without occasionally looking at the keyboard. The wrist rest is welcome and media keys are a nice plus but I would prefer to be able to use them with one hand rather than have the fn key the other end of the keyboard.

I was going to buy this keyboard because of the red back lighting and brown switches. But at around £150 it was a bit to rich for me.

Then I picked up a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate for £89 locally, and finding it a really nice keyboard with it's blue switches blue lighting.

Red backlight keys tend to stand out better when near your monitor, but I was really surprised how will this Blackwidows backlighting stands out also.

I think you made a great choice and will really enjoy that board, and I would have got myself one eventually if it wasn't for the nice price I got this Blackwidow for.:)

Hi all I just joined because I'm wondering there is any news on a date for this? I'm dreaming of a UK layout ninja with browns atm.

Welcome! I personally asked the UK retailer and they informed me that stock is expected to land in early 2012. It is currently in production/transportation.

I'm after a Ninja Majestouch-2 Tenkeyless with Cherry MX Browns, should be a great combination.

Just ordered a WASD Custom keyboard from the states. Came to the same price as I would have payed for a Filco for the same quality.

Didn't want anything too crazy. I like it simple. :D

Whats mechanical about them? sorry for sounding stupid

I still use my Packard Bell one that i've had since 1996. It's probably mechanical

US layout really doesn't bother me in the slightest tbh. Just remap keys through windows and you're golden. But then if you like the big enter and small shift you're screwed still. I love the bigger left shift, not so much the enter key.

Oh and if you hold on WASD keyboards will be releasing a UK layout board very soon. Was meant to be out this December but looks like we won't see it until January now.

Definately got to be UK for me the few times I've used US I've found it quite jarring. Also if I'm spending this much (I don't intend on becoming a geekhacker, this will be my final keyboard purchase ever im hoping!) I want it to be perfect to be honest.

If they sold side printed caps I'd probably just buy a standard UK layout and do it myself but getting a full UK set seems impossible. I might however buy this set and use the arrow keys for WASD and a plain red for esc.

Didnt know this, too late though, got a Filco that i'm more than happy with, may look into custom key cap set at a later date though if they release them in UK layout.
