** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Yep I got the brown cherry keys, they're very nice. Might take a bit of time to get used to them coming from my old keyboard. It seems fine without a rest so far :)

Congrats on the purchase Shamikebab!

Triggaaar, i'm using the filco with no rest, i had one on my Siatek Cybord V7 however i never really got on with it, i kept putting it on and taking it off, could never find a comfortable position with the wristrest on, hense why i never bought one for the Filco i have to say i'm rather comfortable gaming without a wrist rest, (i only wrest my wrists when gaming, my hands hover when typing(dont ask, dont know), cant say at any point that i've thought i'd benifit from one, but its a very personal thing.

i wouldnt mind trying one of the filco ones, just to see how it feels, but i cant justify paying that when i dont need it.

My corsair just turned up and it'll definitely take a while to get use to the difference in quality compared to what I had. Its very easy to type on though and the keys all feel extremely high quality. Still in shock that the entire keyboard is solid metal lol. Weighs a tonne :D

Looks really suave next to my corsair 800D case though and the blue backlight matches the fan controllers LED colour perfectly so it all matches (sad I know :P)

The Steelseries 6GV2 is stocked by a large PC superstore chain so you can go and try it out. £85, though it is cheaper online by about a tenner.
Just been and tried this. I love the simple style (same as the Filco) and the keys feel really nice - just too heavy for me. I stood at the keyboard typing imaginary nonsense while people stared at me.

Blues - I'm sure these will be too loud for the family.
Blacks - too heavy
Browns - I like the idea of the tactile feel, but given my lack of typing skill (which isn't bad, but not at the levels of many) I get the impression that sometimes I'll get the tactile feedback and sometimes I won't (as I'll be pressing too hard) and this lack of consistency may make the board a bit average.
Reds - I like the feel of the blacks, they were just too heavy so reds could work, I need to try them.

Sounds like you definitely want reds. No idea where you will be able to try them, though remember, you can return items ordered under DSR so you will only lose the return postage if you do not like them. :)

I've not tried any mechanical keys before, but will probably get a Filco soon with Browns... i am hoping these are ok and a good all rounder...

My filco with browns should get delivered tomorrow, Ill tell you my opinion for a newbie like you who never used a mechanical keyboard before when I try it out, but yea I heard browns were easiest to like and they're the best for gaming AND typing though I heard blues are close.

Please do report back in this thread, will be very much appreciated :D

I am looking forward to pulling the trigger on my Filco soon. I hope its worth the money!

I wish there was definite. I'd like to try them, but I will type/work (Lightroom etc) more than game, and reds are advertised more for gaming.
Blacks are off the list, and although I expect Blues are nice, they have been disqualified for making such a racket. Without getting fancy (clears with brown springs) that only leaves reds and browns, and both are under consideration.

I could, although I would prefer not to need that option. I may be lucky enough to try the switches that are being lent out on the DeskThority forum, and maybe I can then make my mind up.

Well I have finally joined the club. Going to take a while to get used to and my trusty old brown towel wrist rest is going to need replacing, but I am loving it at the moment. Not gamed yet though, but willl give it a whirl tonight on BF3. It may look small, but damn, it heavy!

I just love tha fact it comes in a box with a small leaflet and a USB to PS2 adaptor. No driver discs or any of that gubbins.

Some piccies -

Your new K/B looks nice. I may splash out and get the flico wrist rest with my K/B... i know its £50 but recently i have been getting RSI from too much BF3, if the rest helps solve this problem then its worth it.

It's really comfortable with the rest whenever i am gaming for long periods on bf3 and swtor. Also my chair has adjustable arm rests which allow me to rest my elbows at the same height as the desk which really help in minimising RSI.

So... just got my filcos with browns, I really like them, 1st thing I notice is damn its heavy, 2nd tough, 3rd hard to move then once I started typing on them is how easy it is to type on them and the wonderful noise they make when you type on it however if its worth the money that all depends on how much is £120 pounds to you, for me I want to keep it, you will notice a big change from your previous ones lastly I have been using the keyboard only for a few minutes :P wanted to report back quickly but I do recommend it and I can tell you that you will not be replacing this keyboard for years its like a tank.

Sounds excellent, and the good news is you are happy with the browns, so i think i will be going with these as well.

Yeah the best thing about these types of keyboards is you just keep the unit forever and if you need to in the future you can just replace the keysets.

Did you go tenkeyless or fullsize? I am thinking about tenkeyless because i never use the num pad and want the smaller size which will free up space for my mouse.

Glad you're enjoying the 6GV2 PapaLazaru :) Really is a sweet keyboard. I hope you're using it on the PS2 connector now ;)

Personally, I'm loving SteelSeries products currently. The lack of driver disk is great!
