** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

My WASD has now cleared both US and UK Customs, I wasn't caught any additional fees.

"Customs clearance processing complete" - International Parcels

I guess the next stop is on my desk?

No. It will go to your local mail depot then they will send you a letter confirming how much you will need to pay.

Mechanical keyboards all the way, could never use anything else. Tried several others over the years, all no good as far as I was concerned. Maybe I would have got used to it, but there is a quite a difference between growing to like something and putting up with another.

Just got my Steelseries 7g in today. Feels really nice but I think the spacebar might be gammy. It takes the lightest touch to get to to activate in the centre and on the right, but on the left it appears to not activate 100% of the time. It also squeaks and if I bottom it out on the left side and it doesn't have that nice crisp clicky feedback, more like a muted thud and has more resistance.

Is this something that needs to break in or should I be looking to send it back?

Edit.

Now I look at it closer, the bar is slightly more raised on the right hand side, with some pressure needing to be applied before it's at the same level as the other keys.

If I apply the lightest pressure on the right hand side the bring the spacebar level, then bottom out the left side, it responds and clicks nicely.

Mine is dead straight so it sounds faulty. Try and remove it and have a peek underneath.

I am also wondering if anyone can help. I am very much enjoying my black switches but I am moving soon and I don't want to keep the missus up with my occasional late night gaming. She is finding them really annoying during the day let alone when she is trying to sleep as they are very clicky over a normal keyboard.

I can see that you can buy dampening rubber O rings but I am trying to save some money and buy some of someone who is not selling them for the purposes of a keyboard. You can pick them up for a tenth of a penny each from certain places. What I need to know is, is how big I need to get them. Looks about 3-4mm?

Will I not void my warranty doing that? I've used it for a few days now and the paint on the keys has already worn off so i'm not sure I could get it replaced if I needed to :(

If I do pop the spacebar off, what do I look for?

The keys do fade a little. My WASD keys started fading but after a week they stopped fading further and have remained the same. You can get replacements after some time if you want as I believe most mech keyboard keys will fit straight on as it is a standard fitting.

You will not void any warranty taking the space bar off it is meant to come off. Just slip a small knife under the front and ease it off gently. Will look like this underneath 0

Check all three parts look like they are level.

A few DAYS? What the hell kind of printing is that? My compaq must be coming up on two decades and is showing absolutely no sign of wear on the keys... i'm not sure what method it uses actually, doesn't look like anything on the guides.
