** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

A few DAYS? What the hell kind of printing is that?
Indeed, I don't understand how these expensive keyboards (wasd, filco etc) are losing their lettering so quickly. My logitech is about 7 years old and only 1 key has lost a bit of white (and I only know that because I just had a good look).

Well I checked underneath my spacebar and the posts aren't level when I initially removed the bar, but set themselves to level as soon as I touched one, and nothing looks broken or damaged.

The key is pretty much horrible to use now though. It seems like the posts aren't gripping the gaps in the spacebar well.

Edit.

I tried putting the spacebar in backwards to see if it was the bar itself; if it was warped or the post hole was too wide the problem should probably change to the left from the right, but it stayed the same. Think it's RMA time.

I'm looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard but I don't know which one to go for. My budget is around £70. Initially I was set on the Cherry G80-3000 with blues but then I read that the build quality is quite poor due to the keys not being mounted on metal, and the plastic chassis being quite flimsy.

Now I'm thinking the Steelseries 6G. The only problem with that keyboard is that it comes with black switches, which I've heard are too stiff for typing, and one of the main reasons why I'm ditching my Microsoft Reclusa is because the keys are too stiff.

So can anyone give me a bit of advice? Are the blacks really that stiff? Which is the better board out of the Steelseries and the Cherry?

Poor tbf. Looks like they used super bright paint or whatever. I am not sure it is even rubbing off it is just dulling over time. Luckily as it is mechanical new keys are easy to get.

Sounds like it. :(

I went from a Reclusa to a 6G and I can tell you know the keys are much stiffer, though of course, they are much smoother. For gaming it is absolutely amazing but I am still getting used to typing on it.

For your budget I reckon your best bet ios the Razor Black Widow. Can be bagged for less than £65 delivered online and uses blue switches which are clicky but good for both.

The Razer looks good but I don't like that it's not PS2 compatible.

I think the board for me is the Steelseries 6G, but the version with red Cherry MX switches, which are less stiff than the blacks.

Does anyone know where I can buy one of these? I can't find them online.

Basically, you can't as they don't sell them. I hear they are planning on bringing one out with brown switches but there is no ETA and it might be a rubbish rumour.

Yeah, I think it was just a limited edition they did for the last Dreamhack. They don't seem to be commercially available.

A good alternative I've found might be the Qpad MK-50. It has full n-key rollover like the 6G, but with Cherry reds instead of blacks.

Had my Filco since November and I develop software. Pretty much used 10 hrs per day, 6 days a week. I have had zero issues, still like new.

Very tempted to get the Cherry G80.

Anyone got one of these?
Yup, I have a couple and they're really nice boards. They don't feel as solid as other plate mounted boards but they don't feel shoddy or cheap by any definition. Just a heads up though, I'm pretty sure the one OC sells is the standard G80-3000 which only has 2KRO so you might get some blocking, but for general use they're awesome.

oh wow, that's surprising, thanks for pointing it out.

Qpad MK-50 seems like the best bang for buck if you want red switches, but OCUK don't stock it

Seems like it. Shame OCUK don't have it in. Maybe they will get it. I believe the 50 only just came out this week. Afterall, they do stock the 80.

got a Mionix Zibal 60 this month, over the moon with it, exactly what I was after. Feels really solid, doesn't move about on my desk at all even if tap it side to side, keys feel good and the backlighting is spot on. 8/10, downsides: price, got mine for £144 because OcUK didnt have it in stock in time :(
