** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Not that I have that keyboard myself (still quite happy with my Corsair K60) but raising your elbows is the correct posture for typing. I actually often don't do it but it's something you're meant to do to both improve typing accuracy and to reduce risk of RSI. Alllll of that said, I would also be pretty annoyed about a lack of feet on my keyboard as I always use them on mine.

The Zowie doesn't 'need' feet. It has a solid-base construction with rubber slip material that angles the keyboard at pretty much the exact same angle as all other market keyboards that have feet. It is not a flat keyboard because it is without feet.

In fact a lot of mechanical keyboards that have been on the market for over a year have media-keys. Really why is everyone getting so excited about this Corsair piece of crap? It sounds like they have cut a lot of corners with it and it has Cherry Red switches... have people actually tried Reds and realised what they're like? I would definitely NOT want the actuation and response of Reds for gaming!

I'm thinking of getting a Noppoo Choc Mini in US layout (there's no UK version) and I was wondering: would it be possible to kind of convert it to UK layout by swapping the " and @ keys around and using Autohotkey or whatever to change their functions, and also to change the $ key to a £ key?

Also, whilst the majority of the K60 keys are MX-Reds, for £100 I would expect the whole lot to be. I spent just a smidge over that on my Majestouch and I got a full layout of mechanicals.

Couldn't agree more, just go over too there forums & have a look at the problems people are having with there keyboards and mice.

I couldn't care less about the media keys. Until recently it was the only mech keyboard OcUK stocked (or had in stock) that didn't have cherry blacks. Cherry reds are fine for gaming to be honest, but I agree that the K60 does have some annoying corners cut - the fact that only the main keys are mech is pretty lame.

A year ago I asked OCUK to get some Zowie's in stock and they did... they have Brown switches. Didn't they also stock the Razor keyboards that come with Blue switches, too? Everyone seems incredibly hyped about these K60's (just look at how many mentions over the last few pages...) but, for my money, it's one of the worst mechanical keyboards to enter the market yet. Typical story: major 'gaming peripheral' brand does a mechanical and cuts loads of corners, uses less-than-ideal switches but makes it 'cool' for gamers to buy: gamers flock to it, despite there already being a massive market for much higher quality mechanical keyboards. What is it with gamers and their love-affair for overpriced, badly-designed crap? I would rather have bought a Filco 4 years ago than a K60 today.

They may stock them but they weren't in stock when I happened to want to purchase a keyboard.

I don't understand the hype either but they're certainly not a bad keyboard to use from personal experience. That said, the only other mech I've used is a cherry black (not sure of brand, was at a friend's house) and I wasn't too impressed by it.

I see the Blacks as a fairly specialist/niche switch to be used pretty much only by serious FPS gamers. Wholly unsuitable for any prolonged typing exercises or quick-response games.

I just leave mine on UK Layout, and just memorise that shift 2 is " and shift key next to enter is @ and pound is shift 3

Yeah, I checked out the layouts and I think it would be fine. Might take a while to get used to but that's no problem. Incidentally though, it's not possible to reassign Noppoo keys with autohotkey. Or at least that's what I've read.

Only problem now is to get my hands on one considering Noppoo have no European distribution. You can get them on online auction sites for around £65 delivered, which is a great price. But I'm assuming that when it gets shipped over here I will have to pay 20% VAT and some possible customs charges. Does anyone know if that's the case, or do all purchases on a well-known auction site already include VAT?

Also, if anyone has one second-hand and is looking to sell, I'm looking to buy... :)

Yeah, I can see your point on that. In an ideal world I'd have a keyboard for gaming and another for coding work but I took the view that it was more important for me to have a comfortable typing experience than an arguably better FPS one (and cherry reds are still a million times nicer to use than my old crappy non-mech keyboards for FPS games).

The best all-rounder switches are surely the Browns. I don't see the hype about the Reds now... everyone keeps going on about them. Their actuation is far too light for gaming, really.

As I stated, it was either blacks or reds for me at the time and reds were closer to what I wanted than the blacks. Blues or browns would've been nicer but I wanted to purchase from here for various reasons.

I don't have an issue with using them for gaming and I'm a fairly proficient and regular FPS gamer. I am quite decent at typing/etc though so perhaps it would be different for someone else.

I got mine from ebay and didnt pay any vat/customs, might have just been lucky. intelligent-pro was the seller.

Evening all. :)

I am looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard and have been looking at the Filco Ninja Majestouch 2 TKL with MX browns. All the reviews seem to be very positive and the switches seem to be popular.

Would this be a good board for gaming and lots of typing? I currently have a G510 but I am getting a bit fed up of the feeling of the keys.

Cheers. :)

Well I just ordered a Choc Mini off ebay. Fingers crossed it gets here quickly and without customs charges.

I personally really like the look of the Choc, moreso than the Filco and Das boards. The only one I think looks as good as the Choc is the Zowie. And with it being Cherry browns it should be nice to type on. My only anxiety is that how well the media keys and numpad and what not work, with it being such a compact board.

Just got my Filco Magestouch 2 Ninja with Cherry Browns. I had a Steelseries 7g previously that got RMA'd and refunded but oh man I can tell the difference between the blacks and browns.

Serious gamers (Excluding RTS) should go with blacks imo. Not having the bump means you don't need to bottom out during games, whereas with the browns it's kinda hard not to bottom out and incredibly fatiguing.

Gonna give it a few days and might send it back and get a black kitted board instead.

That aside, the Filco is amazing. The 'ninja' keycaps with the legends printed on the front of the keys rather than the top looks so good. When I decide whether to keep this or get a black switch board I think I might eventually roll all blank keycaps for that l33t hax0r look.
