** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

You can buy different key caps later down the line if you did experience problems or fancied a change. As far as the ergonomics go though its the best keyboard I have ever typed on and love it :)

That's not really the point though - if you pay premium cash for something, you don't (well I don't) expect such a basic oversight as the figures wearing off the keys after a short time, especially as it's not a hard thing to avoid. Come to think of it, how would a manufacturer of keys not pay attention to the durability of the print? It's not like there's that much else to get right!

As of today I now have a Filco Majestouch 2 with brown cherry switches and all I can say is wow! what a keyboard! It's a huge step up from my old G15v2 which is now sat gathering dust! My main game is Starcraft 2 and I've gained roughly 10 apm already because I just feel I can be so much faster with this board. The only downside that I can see is the lack of a back light but that really doesn't worry me, also I found the usb cable to be a little short but a usb extension makes up for that.

Thought this may be usefull in here - originally posted this in the deals section :)

Purchased one of these today from you guys (CM Trigger). Must say that I am impressed. It is a joy to use. Taking a little while to get used to the fact that I don’t need to press the buttons down all the way to get the keys to work :p

I am coming from a Sidewinder X6 - Nothing wrong with that keyboard but I couldn't get away from the fact that it feels cheap and doesn't do the rest of my rig justice. This thing however exceeds expectations and fits in with the rest of my set up perfectly.

I haven't used a mechanical keyboard before so I have nothing to compare it to in that respect but the quality of the CM Trigger is very impressive. I went for this one because of the positive reviews and the fact that it has back lit keys (and there was £5 off - thanks). The keys are really responsive and the whole unit feels solid.

There is a video on the internet of CM driving over the keyboard with various vehicles to prove it's durability - what ever that has to do with day to day gaming - so I guess mine will be fine sat on the desk being tapped by my fingers (unless it goes out moonlighting while I am asleep - but at least I don't need to worry about it crossing the road).

Overall I am going to give full marks and it definitely gets my recommendation (for what it's worth ha ha)

Unfortunately for you guys at OCUK it does mean that I have pretty much finished the rig for now (should read - "have spent all of my money"). But then again I said that before you teased me into buying three of the sammy monitors and this lovely (but not essential) upgrade :D

not a massive fan of typing on black switches myself as it doesn't fit my typing style well

Won't be a problem for me as I have the typing skills of an asthmatic hamster at the best of times - which considering the amount of time I spend in front of a computer is quite depressing.

So I got my Ozone Strike yesterday. Really like the feel of it, I don't type loads but it feels fine for typing (still getting used to it so making the odd typo), and I can see why they're popular with FPS gamers!

Didn't see your earlier post til now.

Its a nice solid keyboard, great substantial feeling build quality. Its never gonna be perfect for typing - I still make the odd typo having had it awhile and its not the most comfortable for long periods of typing either - but for FPS gaming if feels more "in sync" with me than any other keyboard I've tried.

Still loving the MK-80. Been playing some games recently and its a joy to use! Keep getting that satisfying feeling when I begin to type after half forgetting its mechanical :p

I got the same keyboard and I also play a lot of SC2 (you should join in the OcUK SC2 thread more :)) and I completely agree it works amazing for this game! Also just a generally awesome keyboard for typing. Haven't played FPS on it yet but I don't forsee any problems :D

It's more than fine for FPS gaming imo.

I'm starting to think the blacks for fps gaming idea is kinda meh, i've used both extensively now and they're both good, just feel slightly different.

I don't think that blacks are crucial for top-level fps gaming either, as Zowie keyboard use browns, and they aim their stuff at hardcore CS gamers and endorsed by top-level CS gamers, to the extent that they still focus their mice on optical over laser.

I use the brown switch Filco also but I have a red switch also. Reds are excellent for FPS games. I feel that blacks would mean you need to push harder for no reason.

This may be an noob question, but I've got a Dell AT102W and I'm looking to get new key caps for the WASD keys.

I know that they are Alps mechanical switch, but I'm not really sure which ones. I'd just assumed that they're black.

Here's a picture I found online

And my main question is that if it is 'Black' ALPS keyswitches, does that mean that any Black Alps Keycap will fit?

May be some aspect of personal preference to it - but how I see it - browns are good for overall gaming whereas blacks excel at FPS gaming and pretty poor for anything else.

Desk cleared and clean, Filco Ninja installed (brown switches).

Very nice. My step dad tried it before me, and having the lettering on the side wasn't for him (stuck in his ways). I've got no problem with it, even in the first 5 minutes.

I can't imagine there will ever be a time when I don't bottom out the keys, they're just so light (I'm not smashing them all down with great force, but I'm getting to the bottom before I've come to a complete stop). Some on this thread say that makes having a mechanical keyboard pointless, but I don't get that. The keyboard feels great, and isn't that half the point when I spend most of my life attached to it? Unlike the rubber dome keyboards, I'm hoping all of my keys will stay consistent. And least when I press a key I know it's pressed.

I went for the full UK board. The tenkeyless would have looked the business, and I don't use the numpad that often, but I do use it, and on those occasions I don't want to be slowed down. I think I've gone for the right model.

The browns feel nice, I'll wait to see if there are any complaints about the noise, it doesn't sound excessive to me.

Handy having a simple dust cover too.

Hi all,

I want a gaming keyboard that doesn't have the number pad on it. So far I have found these two

CM Storm QuickFire Rapid Mechanical Keyboard

Noppoo Choc Mini 84 Mechanical Keyboard

Both of which are around the £70 mark inc delivery. I am aware there are filco keyboards etc but these come to around £120.

Does anyone have any experience with the above. The main use is gaming (Starcraft 2) with only light use for typing.

The CM storm has black switches. Does anyone have black switches and plays RTS games? Also the Choco whould be 2-5 days delivery so not too long a waiting time

I have the Choc Mini and have no complaints, only issue is that some might not like is the US layout. If you fancy the CM Storm I would wait for the Red Switch version of it. Reds are really light so better for gaming imo.

I have the Choc Chip Mini, had it for about a year now, I've been very pleased with it, the only complaint that I have is that the typeface wears off the keys very quickly.

The one I have uses Cherry Red switches, so depending on which switch type you want this may very well effect your decision. I know the CM Storm is produced with red switches, it's just not available in this country yet ...or indeed anywhere in Europe that I can see.

How do black switches cope with RTS games with high APM? From my limited understanding they are slightly firmed to press than brown or red and so would they be less effective?
