****THE OFFICIAL OCUK SHAVING HINTS AND TIPS THREAD****

My routine -

Hot shower
Fill sink with hot water splash on face
apply gel
shave all over with downward strokes
wash face completly
reapply gel
shave again with upward strokes
wash face with cold water

I just shave against the grain. Sometimes I get burn, sometimes I don't.

Pot luck I say.

1) Wet face with hot water
2) Apply KoS Shaving Oil
3) Wet face
4) Apply KoS Shave Gel
5) Shave with the grain
6) Repeat 3 & 4
7) Shave against the grain
8) Moisturise

Foam and shave (Gilette mach 3)... it's not that hard surely? Long as you keep your eyes open and don't start jumping or something you arent likely to cut yourself :p

i normally go to my barbers when i can as i just get such a bad rash round my neck what ever i do and it hurts soooooooo much...........

Ive tried everything mentioned above and the only thing worth noting is that the Nivea moisturiser is indeed a good 'un

I've been tempted to do this but I dont trust a stranger with a sharp blade held to my throat :o Is it worth the money do you think?

A good hybrid shaver are the philishave coolskin's. They are waterproof electric shavers with a gel dispensal unit, you basically just apply a bit of gel and then just shave like a normal electric. Can also use in the shower as they're 100% waterproof. No where near as much iritation IMO and just as smooth. Go team lazy

Bah, you bunch of women. Do it rambo style!

Small towel soaked in very very hot water, squeeze most of the water out of it. Lay it on your face for 30s or so.

Apply shaving gel, foam or even better shaving soap as evenly as you can, but not too thick a layer.

Make sure you get a sharp decent razor blade. Mach3s are slightly better than average but give a pretty decent result for the majority of the population. A cheaper and equally decent performance option is to get a traditional single blade razor. The action an performance is similar to a cut-throat razor. Obviously the creme de la creme is a proper single blade razor.

After shaving whilst going WITH THE GRAIN. If you're not getting a close shave, you're not doing it right. There should never be a time where shaving against the grain is necessary.

Copiously apply lots of very very cold water on the face to close up the pores.

You can use a moisturising oil or shaving balm if you suffer from shaver's rash. A good way to stop infection is to use aftershave as a bonus it smells nice too - but the alcohol disinfects your pores.

And there you go. It's a laborious process, but worth doing right. I'm lazy and shave once a week - but then again as soon as I shave I need to shave again anyway. I have yet to meet someone who can grow a beard as thickly or as quickly as me! :o

Edit: EVERYONE should at least once, should get a proper shave at a barber's - you will never have a better shave ever.

Maybe something to do with you shaving with the grain? When I shave with the grain it's NEVER as smooth as when going against.
