My routine -

Hot shower
Fill sink with hot water splash on face
apply gel
shave all over with downward strokes
wash face completly
reapply gel
shave again with upward strokes
wash face with cold water

Yep this is what i do when i go out. It really works and you can feel the difference on your face. I use Original Source Mint shaving gel too as it leaves the skin feeling all tingly. oh and make sure when you reapply the gel you work it in with circular motions and really rub it in.

Oh and finally... Make sure the blade is not blunt... ;)

 shaving thread and not a mention of.......im not gonna do it :o

stubble for the win! get a trimmer no need for this shaving rash nonsense then.

My tip is to look at the direction each part of your beard grows: the stuff on my chin goes slightly out and down for example. If you follow the exact direction it grows you will get a much better shave.

Alternatively you could splash liquid nitrogen on your face and scrap the stubble off with a spatchelor (sp?)

Long shave instructions

1. Fill sink with hot water, put facecloth in to warm up and then wrap around face parts to open up pores.
2. Put razor into the sink to warm up a little.
3. Remove facecloth, apply shaving foam of choice liberally.
4. Start shaving as normal, but leave any problem areas or areas with the stiffest stubble until last. This gives the shaving foam time to soften up the bristles a little - for me that's top lip.
5. Shave using downward strokes only. Going against the grain causes razor burn and ingrown hairs.
6. Rinse the razor after every stroke to ensure a snag free experience.
7. Rinse any foam off with the water left in the sink.
8. Finish off by splashing some cold water on to close the pores back up.
9. Apply aftershave balm and marvel at a pain free shave.

Quick shave instructions

1. Splash face with warm water.
2. Apply shaving foam.
3. Shave.
4. Wash off face with cold water.
5. Apply aftershave balm.

As for what products I'd recommend... Nivea Aftershave Balm is great for any mild razor burn and smells nice too. Nivea Sensitive Foam is very good as well (I promise I don't work for them) and my current razor of choice is a Mach 3 Power.

i use both the niveo moisturiser and shaving foam and find them to give me the best finish

The MSN article was pretty good.

Anyone know where to buy the real good shaving stuff from - like the better brushes and the nice shaving soap that the article mentions?

I'm guessing some of the upmarket shops in London (Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Forntum & Mason etc) do it all.

use a beard trimmer, its much easier. If I sahve i use some of those yellow bic razors and hot water. works quite well as long as your bash the beard out the razor with every stroke. ;)

I'm pretty sure do it all aren't around any more, and when they were they proberbly didn't actually do it all atall, infact the chances of them doing shaving stuff is pretty low.....

There are a load of online stores that do decent shaving stuff, but i don't seem to have them book marked... there were some in the last thread about shaving... just get on google ;)

As for highstreet places, i'm pretty stumped - the ones you mentioned would be a good place to start :)

LOL whoops I think I made a mess of the punctuation in my post, do it all was supposed to be outside the bracket obviously! :p
