Maybe something to do with you shaving with the grain? When I shave with the grain it's NEVER as smooth as when going against.

Makes **** all difference if you shave properly :) Furthermore I don't get a rash as a result. You're more likely to get a rash shaving against the grain, FACT, end of, etc...

I shave against the grain and I don't get a rash either. Looks like that's the proper way for me. ;)

the best thing to do is use a "Pre shave wash" product... basically an exfoliating scrub... this makes your facial hair really soft and much easier to shave off!

I use the KoS one and the difference is night and day when compared to going straigt in there!

Shower, KoS PreShave, KoS Shavegel, Shave = Done.

Oh and to those saying that shaving against the grain is ok, give it a go against the grain "down there" and then try coming back and saying it isnt a bad idea. ;)
Doesn't bother me

ditto actually, apart from on my top lip, so i tend to go with a sideways motion :)

but a decent shaving brush and a glycerin-based shaving cream makes all the difference!

I've converted to the single blade safety razor, and while it doesn't have bells, whistles or vibratey things it shaves as well and doesn't irritate my face nearly as much - takes a bit more time, but the result is worth it :)

have a read here and give it a go - you can get cheap brushes in boots or superdrug, same goes for the safety razor, the men-u things aren't too bad, and then when you get the bug upgrade. Be aware though, buying proper razor blades will make you look pretty damn emo ;)

NOTE: My tip only really applies if you have a skin head.

Basically I shave my head once and week using nothing but the metal blade, to save time I just go all over my face aswell. Not a clean shave as a razor but less blood! unless you catch your ear.

I do it in the shower, and then fix the bits I miss (not much now, practice).

I use Body Shop Shave Cream, plus a shaving brush. The body shop stuff is rediculously expensive (£6), but my last tub lasted 18 months so good value considering. I've tried KoS gel and the Body Shop stuff wins.

imo...

I use a gillette r0x0r mach 3 turbo pro gel, and one of the mach 3 nitro electric battery in the wet razor jobbies..... and im sure its NO better than a disposable bic razor and some soap. its all in the technique, and id argue, that varies person to person ( I shave quite quickly with long strokes, wheras some people thing im about to slice my face off doing it that way, however a lot of people are better doing small repetative strokes.... )

Also, do NOT start shaving your chest, back etc..... it is highly addictive......

I've started to use Veet for Men hair removal cream, slap it on, drink a brew, scrap off, rinse the rest....mmmm nice and smooth.....

I know, I know, I need help.....

When i shave, i just bang a load of gel on and scrape the hair off.
When i run out of gel, for the next 4 months or so i use soap untill the missus remembers to get me some more.

I've been tempted to do this but I dont trust a stranger with a sharp blade held to my throat :o Is it worth the money do you think?

Hell yes! You have nothing to loose, it may be a little sore the first time as when the barber cuts it, he cuts it correctly so the hairs grow the right direction. I never get sore when he does it.

Here's my guide:

Wet face with hot water to open the pores
Use a shaing brush to apply shaving cream

I personally use the Real Shaving Company cream from Boots. It gives a much better shave than a gel and lasts for at least 4 months shaving 3-4 times per week.

Shave once with down strokes to remove most of the hair
Re-apply cream and use up strokes
Rince face with warm water
Apply a nice after shave cream without alchohol
