**** The Official OnePlus 5 Thread ****

Really want to see what this is like. Very nearly picked up the 3T. Only other phone tempting me at the moment is the LG G6, although i am hoping it doesnt have the same bootloop issues.

Don't want to kill anyones hopes but "Summer release" could mean anything up until September - I'm fairly sure if it was coming out in June we'd have some info already and so far it's nothing but rumours.

I dont personally think they'll wait as long as September to release if they're releasing teaser stuff now and wont want people to just buy an S8 in the meantime.

The average people will still buy the S8 though, OP has pretty much always been the phone for people "in the know". I'd say people who buy OP are the ones who buy Nexus/Pixel and they're more likely to buy the next of these phones than to buy a Galaxy.
I could be wrong but that's how I see it.

I am a Nexus refugee :D

i would say that is spot on apart from the bit about the pixel. the pixel is very much a flagship phone with a flagship price it's in the same market as the s8 and current gen iphone.

the type of people that buy a brand new car every 2-3 years usually would never touch a vehicle older than say 3-5 years. they aren't in that market segment.

the type of people who spend £800 on a flagship wouldn't be looking at a cheap chinese phone. the oneplus market is the same as the old nexus market. or people that have wisened up to the fact flagship phones are overpriced and pointless.

The Pixel is very much an overpriced Nexus. Yes it's too expensive but it's still a pure Google experience so it will always get the attention of Nexus/OP users.
We do agree on the bottom line, OP won't use potential buyers to the S8.

I'm not so sure. I was very much interested in the Pixel right up until the point that the price was confirmed. I've been a Nexus user for a good few years now (still am) and love the slick stock experience, but first and foremost was the high-end specs at mid-range prices - stock Android was a great bonus.

I wasn't prepared to jump up to the Pixel prices when there are plenty of perfectly fine (not perfect, but perfectly fine) phones at and below the old Nexus prices. The OnePlus 3/3T are similar candidates, as I hope the OnePlus 5 is, but otherwise I'm likely to head the other way and go for a Lenovo P2 rather than move towards the £600+ prices for a device that will likely last a couple of years. I've even bought a Redmi Note 4 and will see what that's like when it eventually arrives (though it was bought with the intention of giving it to my mother to replace her Nexus 5, but I am curious to see whether I could get along with a ~£130 phone to replace my 6P).

Same here. The pricing of the Pixel was way too high.

Agreed, I bought my original OP3 the day after the Pixel announcement as I had been waiting to upgrade my Nexus 5, saw the price and noped all the way to the o2 shop.

I went from the Nexus 5 to the LG G4 as Vodafone had it at a silly price but do want to go back to a Google device but the OP5 is likely my next phone if they can keep it below £450. Near stock matched with decent hardware is a no brainer when compared to the competition.

Well there you have it, the whole point was to demonstrate the Nexus/Pixel crowd is the target for OP. Yes the Pixel is overpriced but you all checked it out anyway because it was the Nexus successor. So to go back to Goose's point, really they could release the OP5 in September and still not lose customers to the S8 (they probably won't wait that long anyway).

Considering that s8 most likely had more pre orders within first week than Google pixel units sold for quite a while I don't think you have to worry about what is or isn't a competition for Samsung.

I hope that op5 will be good as well even though I own s8 already but I wouldn't hold my breath for it being under £500. They've been stepping up on quality and specs each release and if this comes with sd835 and all other goodies, considering the recent price hikes on the market, my bet is on £549 spec matching s8 apart from a feature or two and perhaps camera.

If bezel less is where every company is headed, I'll probably just wait for the OP6 when they can offer that. The OP5 camera will probably be the only major improvement over the 3T.

Leaked specs from geekbuying - also pricing looks amazing if to be believed
