**** The Official OnePlus 6T Thread ****

My point is, other than price, there's no longer anything the OnePlus 6T offers over, say, a pixel.

It's nonsense to claim the headphone socket is the only thing the OP 6T has over other phones besides price, I effectively had an unlimited budget but I still opted for OP (new slogan surely?) and compared to the Pixel, I think it's a more compelling hardware package.

I say that as someone who's as vocal a critic as you can be of Apple's courageous decisions but unfortunately my mobile is more important than having a native headphone socket.

In my original post I did say "stopped me"

I can afford a more expensive phone than the OnePlus, so if I have to faff around using a dongle on the 6T, I'd rather just spend more and get a Pixel.

That doesn't mean everyone will have the same opinion, however - and I never said you should

For me it seems pretty simple. If the camera is important, Pixel all the way. If it isn’t, then the OnePlus has to be worth a look. For me, a camera IS important, so the choice is easy :)

Seems like the 6T smashes the Pixel on everything bar camera, which isn't too far away anyhow.

Certainly makes a mockery of Google's resources and design teams!!

The camera on the 6T is mediocre in comparison to the Pixel 3. The rest of the Pixel is meh I agree there. But they do have stereo speakers which I am a fan of.

@tallpall_s - carry another camera around all the time on the off chance of a shot? Nah you're alright mate.

All I've ever done with photos I've taken is look at them on my phone, send them to people to look on their phone, maybe upload a select few to social media for people to look at on their phone.

No need whatsoever for a fancy super camera, not like they are going to be printed out and need to have as much detail as possible.

Happily give up a super camera for the rest of the amazing specs, and save some money too. 6T > Pixel3

Not bashing anyone that is happy with this camera. If your content with it then great.

I don't get the argument of you just look at it on your phone. Makes no sense whatsoever. Quality is prevalent regardless. Otherwise you'd get a Poco as it does what this phone does as a whole, but even cheaper.

Hence the :p

All I'm saying that is if people want to take amazing pictures then they should look further than the camera on their phone. Smartphone cameras are great for everyday shooting, but if top quality photographs are that important, even an entry level mirrorless/DSLR will blow ANY camera on a phone out the water.

It's another option. OP6T + Camera or Pixel 3 for the same price. And that camera I linked is an entry level camera, far, far from a fancy super camera.

That's the thing with the Pixel camera since last gen, you can get pro looking shots with especially if you shoot in RAW.

Vlad who reports for the Verge has access to a plethora of Pro cameras and is blown away by the pixel and often uses it for pro level work. If this stuff goes right above your head then I get it.

I have DSLR with a 16-35 Sigma lens. I can tell you now no one would want to carry that around on the regular. :p

Which is why I linked to a compact Mirrorless camera ;) :p I get not many people want to carry around a big bulky DSLR.

Doesn't go over my head either, I've done plenty of DSLR photography in the past. ;) No need to get snarky :):p

Yes, I agree the Pixel 3 camera is very, very good in good conditions. And the night mode is doing some strange magic to make very dark scenes capturable. However, even my OP3T camera produces excellent photos in good quality light. A proper camera will give much better results in low light, or if you want certain look to a photo, this is where any camera phone will hit it's physical limitations of tiny sensor size, fixed aperture, limited manual controls, limited ISO, limited dynamic range, no/little optical zoom, tiny lens elements etc. etc.

Which brings me back to my original point... If people are stuck between the 6T and the Pixel 3, and the only reason for going for the Pixel 3 is because of the better camera (as we've seen, the 6T is more than up to the job of taking decent shots in most conditions) then another option is to spend the difference on a proper camera and reap the benefits that gives :)

Camera doesn't count for much when you're sending ropey snapchats at 2am on a Saturday night/Sunday morning which is what people will use it for most of the time :p

In all seriousness I really do rate the camera on my 2XL but I honestly can't say I've ever felt a need to use it for any actual photography so it's probably wasted on me. That and I have my DSLR anyway.

True haha. TBH they could remove the selfie camera and I would be extremely happy - I've maybe taken 1 front camera picture in the last 3-4 years.
Now that would upset a lot of people! :D

Yes. I would happily sacrifice the front camera for full display coverage. I would also love to see people operate without one. It would be mayhem!

Spending on another camera that you charge and carry around as much as your just ain't an option for me, or most who like to take quality snaps I'd assume. Not when you can just get a Pixel or Xs.

Not getting snarky, was genuine. Some people just don't fully understand the capability of the pixels camera from Top Shot to the best HDR there is, then the impossible Night Sight. Just think about the faff you'd have to do even with an DSLR to get a night sight or even HDR level shot.

Strange. I'm out to buy a new phone and although I've considered OP6t, I'm much more interested in the Pixel 2 XL despite having no interest phone cameras.

I have a mirrorless pro camera that is actually smaller then some smartphones but just bulkier if that makes sense
