I've replaced the old hard drive with an SSD in my 2008 MBP – as long as it doesn't rely on being an Apple-only SSD I should be ok.

You'll be lucky.
It will almost certainly need a firmware update to enable.
I'm doubting that my 2010 will get Powernap!

They could be holding it back for final release, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Next thing I hope is sorted is iMessage.
Having used the beta for a while and then uninstalling it I really hope they have cracked it.
I also hope that iOS 6 will enable the upload of text messages to the cloud, as currently iMessage simply doesn't work properly without that functionality
