The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

Don't understand how photos can be rather grainy? Surely that comes down to the photos themselves and their resolution?

When you say ghosting, can you expand on your explanation, and maybe post some links of examples which are really bad? I've noticed it on bold text on a white background, but not on anything else so far.

can you try to change to different setting ? like in menu Picture- Smart response , then you have choices fast - fastest. i don't know if that might help.

Hi Mrgrumpie. i just ordered your Stand and 200mm vesa too it will be ready for the monitor by Tuesday.

Ooh...this is an interesting post, thanks hernaldo, that doesn't sound great.

It would definitely be interesting to hear if you've tried changing any settings, could it be on game mode or something?

hernaldo, can you also post your settings so I can duplicate to test as well? (maybe I shouldn't be doing this as sometimes it's better to "don't know what you don't know") :)

Game mode does look awful for normal desktop work! But I can't see how you can put it on that setting by mistake.

False alarm. Sorry :(

By chance was just messing around in the settings, turned smart response off and pixel orbiting off and the ghosting has virtually gone, to point of non issue. I think setting it to "fastest" was the problem which is what I set it at when first changing DP to version 1.2 for 60hz.

Just gone from disappointed to, very pleased.

In terms of grainy images, it looks abit like a "meshy" quality to the image, like some kind of dithering/moire patterning (grid like in nature, not like moire but appears in certain angles that aren't obscure viewing if that makes sense).

I've been using IPS for so long maybe this is just normal, not a deal breaker anyway. :)

Sorry for misinformation.

eeeek...me and my impulsive panic mode tongue :p

Said it already but crikey the colour accuracy on this is incredible. No crushed blacks, no blown out whites.
It's very passive, no added fruit which I like personally.
Better than Dell U3011 out the box using the factory calibrated profile on the U3011.

That's why I wondered if it could be in that mode.

A huge section of the online community just breathed a sigh of relief! :D

Is it something that's noticeable in normal everyday use or do you just see it as you'r scrutinising the panel?

I see it without scrutinising, haven't done so (and refuse to in that hunt for problems type thing, as if I find a dead pixel...well we've all been there)

Don't think should say anything else until had a mess around with some settings, it's definitely not a deal breaker assure you of that. :)

Right think I've got it...

It's because I'm sitting very close to screen, about a foot ;)
Just put contact lenses in and sat back...

Really will say no more until had a proper play around.

Hmm. Agree, photos probably not the best to comment on as it's too subjective and could obviously be the photos themselves.

Bit worrying about the colour shift and ghosting though. I have an IPS Dell, Rog swift TN and VA Dell monitor, and colour shift should be very very minor on a VA panel.

how about save the full review when you get the time and give us before christmas goers some idea of input lag :) ... please :D

will see what i can do. would like to measure response time as well so i can break out the response time element of the overall lag. will report back

Just to let everyone know I'm loving it, the scale takes some getting used to but it's an amazing monitor. I'm about to assemble my Ergotron to get better viewing angles, Gibbo would be onto a winner offering a bundle with a stand, 200mm mounting plate and the monitor.

For those of you considering this for design work, it's not up to the task, pixels are not perfectly square and the colour reproduction is not good enough, contrast and blacks are great but the range or RGB is too limited.

For gaming... wow... if you've got the cards to run games well then they look EPIC on this. ARMA 3 with the draw distance set to 6000m was a particular highlight.

Interested in that stand, not sure though as it's a bit pricey. I'm sure it's worth it but is there something out there half the price that's more or less as good?

I thought the talk of the stock stand being bad was a bit hyperbole, but it really is shockingly bad.

Literally no adjusement whatsoever for angle in any direction or height. Not sure what they were thinking. The power LED next to the Philips logo on the front seems pretty obnoxious too...All minor niggles once you boil it down mind. just questionable design.

Hi El_MUERkO

Thanks for you post.

Can I ask what is it about the colours that aren't good enough for you? It supports virtually 100% sRGB (not sure how good it is with Adobe RGB though), and I've seen a Chinese review which shows it displays sRGB very favourably.

I'd be interested to hear why you aren't happy with the colouring on yours and what setting did you have it on? Hoping it's not another hernaldo situation! :D
