The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

Triple windows for productivity? Does anyone have any photos of this on a 39-40" display?

I would be sitting from 3' away, looking at with a tape measure the screen size just looks enormous, but I can't help but drool at the thought of Elite Dangerous @ 4k with TrackIR and a massive screen....

if its ~£600 i will get one.

But knowing Various Retailers they will have it up @ £1k because they can.

I have been after an upgrade from my 30" hazro and a 40" 4k Monitor would be Just the ticket

Do you guys think 40" 16:9 would be practical to use as a desktop monitor though?

I have a 40" TV in my room and I don't think I could really handle sitting a 2-3 feet away from it to use as a 4k monitor!

I used to have two Samsung 40" 1080p TVs on my desk (and a 30" 1600p) as monitors, worked fine.

When I got rid of them, going down to 30" for gaming was hard!!

Hmm, not convinced. I think when you get to that size, sitting close to it, a 21:9 monitor would make more sense.

Each to their own though!

its officially out in china and it looks great! need 2x22" portrait mode for eyefinity, crazy amount of screen space.

Damn, I may soon need to buy a bigger desk with these new monitors. I really like my current custom IKEA desk (80cm. depth) but if I got that Phillips, and I am thinking about it, it simply won't work.
I do hope the monitor won't be more than 600-700 GBP though. If that is the case I will skip on the 3440x1440 bunch for sure.

Will be about £642.16 when it hits the retailers.

Why won't it work? If the base is right on the desk, then the top of the screen shouldn't be too high?

My desk is 75cm deep, and I'm seriously considering it if I can mount it in the right way.

I'm thinking to split it into 3 virtual monitors for productivity using displayfusion, and then full screen 4k goodness for gaming?

To be honest I do wonder if it's going to be too big, but I can't help but think that I'll get used to the size pretty quickly. Every single monitor (and TV for that matter) that I've ever owned looked big to start with, but became perceptively smaller over time.

For me it's this or the AOC 3440 x 1440p screen....

I currently have 3 monitors (2560x1440, 1920x1200 and 1920x1080, horrible combination) next to each other and find myself switching to the 1920x1080 for gaming.

I often lean on the desk when I work and game and that brings me even closer to the monitor. When gaming at around 60cm on the 2560x1440 I can't quite keep up with the action. It's like watching a movie at the cinema from the front row. But that is just me.

For productivity though you are absolutely right- this Philips offers 110 PPI and my Hazro offers 108 PPI which is pretty much the same and text/UI will be very comparable.

These are good days to be in the market for a new monitor. Just a year ago before the whole 4K fever kicked in things looked quite murky for the high resolution junkies like me.

I find a 30 inch too small for 1600 ! I think with a 28 inch 4K I would suffer a lot.

A 40 inch would be perfect for me depending on the reviews. Its either that or a AOC 34. T

You sure? The last time I checked VAT is around 20%, not 50-80%! :D

A good way of working out how much a US or Far East product should cost in the UK is to add 30%.

The 30% will then cover VAT (20%) and the other 10% will cover shipping charges, custom charges, admin charges etc. etc.

When I looked at importing a car from the US, it was the US price divided by the exchange rate the bank was willing to give which is never the exchange rate online, always lower and then add 30% to cover taxes and shipping etc. It does typically work out the same for most items imported. :)

So is USD price is $600, it would be for instance as a rough guide:
600 / 1.55 = £387
387 + 30% = £503

Then add Etailor margin.

I will be honest guys the price seems far to good to be true, trying to find out from Philips the deal with this monitor but so far no response as no one seems to know.................
