The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

What aren't you liking about the 34" LG? as I'm contemplating a 34" 1440p monitor instead of 4k!

Would be interested to hear your thoughts?

I've got the lg34 wide at the minute and had a Samsung 28" 4k before that.

Reasons I left 4k was I found the 28" screen way too small and pretty pointless at 4k having to scale all the text and ui stuff kinda defeated the object for me.

So I got a deal on a lg 34" 21:9 and am very happy with it.

But I believe that 4k will come into its own at 40" + screen size

Plus the lg I find can be a bit of a faf getting all the games to scale right at the 21:9 aspect ratio

Ordered a spider 4 pro to calibrate my screen.

Am forever fiddling, adjusting thing slightly, wondering what looks best/right. Just taking the guesswork out of it, and hopefully will stop fiddling!

Still loving this screen.

Was hoping for a full day gaming but migraine messed that idea right up :(

Will fire up something on xbox tomorrow for those wondering how it is, but honestly don't think there will be any issues. I mean consoles look a bit rubbish in comparison anyway... ;)

Yeah, I'm not overly interested in 4k at the moment as I don't feel it'll offer much benefit over 1440p on a 27/28" 16:9 display and will bring a host of scaling issues with it. Plus at that size it wouldn't let me replace my dual monitor setup whereas I feel that a 34" 21:9 monitor will.

I can see why some would be keen on a 40" 4k monitor but at my desk I think that it would simply be too large when sitting in front of it!

Load of rubbish, that language is the language of someone who is trying to believe what they're saying.

Sorry but let's call a spade a spade here, you'll thank me later :)

Bit harsh calling him out on that being a load of rubbish.

If 40 inch is too big for his desk, then it is, and smaller 3K screens will possibly have scaling issues.

I have a large desk, and that's the only reason this screen is ok. Most people won't have that space.

Anyway...

Looks gorgeous :)

What blue light do you use to provide the backlighting?

Is your background image edited to add the low opacity box for the icons or is it a piece of software?

I use an antec usb led strip. Just one of six led's. May get another. On the other side of room I have a Philips mood light, set on blue here.

As for the icons, I use a program called Stardock Fences. Was mostly for when had eyefinity, so that my icons wouldn't keep getting rearranged.

OMG, that program looks amazing and is exactly what I need for the workflow on one of my computers.

I had created a really rudimentary version as a single background image I made in photoshop filled with coloured boxes to organise icons as I work through each file in a box. I feel like a caveman discovering fire watching the video on their website :D

Those Philips mood lights are great. I got one of the cheap £20 ones and popped it behind my TV. I find it hard to sit in my room using normal lighting now.

I use fences too :) Funnily enough I also discovered it through frustrations with eyefinity and icons moving. I even use fences on my laptop now

Hey does anyone know if i can drive this screen using 2 inputs in tiled mode with PbP? Have a laptop which i believe cant handle 4k 60hz on dp.

My outputs including the laptops dock are 2x hdmi,1x dp, 1x DVI

I have been looking at new monitors for months now.

Tried 4K 28" and found the res was too much for such a small screen. Windows and programs looked horrendous with scaling and the washed out colours on a TN panel were a big deal breaker. When you are used to a professional screen TN just looks horrible IMHO. The small input lag is a small yet acceptable price to pay for screen and colour qaulity.

Now this monitor looks like it ticks almost alll the boxes for me. The only box it doesn't tick is the DP 1.2a but it is not a must have for me right now. I tried a g-sync monitor but was not that impressed, anything over 35 FPS it did look smooth and stutter free, but approaching 30 it was still noticeably stuttering slightly. So at 4K with one GPU (GTX 980) I expect FPS to dropping into that region quite frequently. :)

I just bought Fences and found out you can't disable auto-arrange within a fence, which messes up my workflow as I can't manually arrange and space out icons within a fence.

Such a shame! I can't believe such a basic feature is missing. Not sure if it will be more of a help or a hindrance now :(

Very interested in this monitor as a do it all monitor for PC gaming use and Xbox one gaming use and movies . I will continue to use my PB278Q 1440p Asus screen and as i have an L shaped desk this will come in handy and the philips 4k screen can be direct view for film watching in bed LOL and the Asus can be used if my missis is on the Xbox one and using the philips.

so can someone show some Xbox one pics and how is it and also thinking of putting my PS4 into it to as i dont get to use my PS4 as much as the main 55in tv down stairs is being hogged either by the missis or the 5 year old daughter .

Im into some photos generally just taking pics of family and just a novice with a novice SLR . but will use my Asus for this .

main point is console gaming and movie watching via streaming via netflix and pc streaming .

its also going to be used as a space saver as being on the desk i can then remove the 32in sony tv from bedroom and give it to my daughter as we need to bring a cot into the bedroom and needing the space . so its a 3 birds with 1 stone thing.

PS

going to receive my new pc soon (a week to 10 days ) which will more than enough handle the Philips 4K gaming with 3x GTX980s and a 5960 extreme CPU .
