The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

hello
been looking for a while at getting one of these, thought id get the graphics card first as i already have a half decient monitor, do you need 1 or 2 graphics cards?, to see the full potential from this monitor? as someone mentioned it i really havnt got a clue about cards.

i was looking at getting gtx980? card is that up to the job do you think?

980ti is what you should be considering at the moment, I've got a 980 and whilst it powers most games I do have to tweak settings on some to enable 4K.

Good news it the monitor scales to lower resolutions brilliantly.

Well I've weighed positives and negatives and decided that it doesn't bother me enough to go over the burden of seeking a replacement. The screen is massive and while it isn't hard to find the bigger spot, I've yet to notice it when not actively seeking to do so, probably because it is in the corner.

Got one of these the other day, and the monitor is amazing. It took me a day to get used to (came from a Samsung 22" which I've had for 10 years) as I kept feeling like I had motion sickness in games. Think it is because you are so immersed, your eyes don't have a fixed reference point. Currently sitting about 80cm away at a desk.

I've only tried World of Tanks so far which is more CPU intensive than GPU but I have to say my system does okay (7950 & I5 760 @3.5ghz).

4k = 40-55 FPS
1080 = 55-95 FPS

(These are both better than by 1680x1050 on my old monitor :S)

Will test other games when I get round too it.

For the past 5 years I've kept putting off buying a new monitor as I wanted the next best thing. This covers everything, only thing would have been nice if 144hz but 60hz is adequate.

Just need to get some 4k content, do Sky broadcast Sports in 4k yet or is it just BT? Also 4k videos on YouTube are pretty good.

I'm happy with 60FPS, as long as I can maintain that. I did manage a 63Hz OC on this monitor but don't think it's worth doing, too small a change. Actually gave away a 120Hz Benq monitor I had as I couldn't stand the TN panel, I prefered gaming on my 60Hz (oc'd to 85) cheaper Benq as colours etc looked far richer and it was a TN panel too.

Strangely enough since getting the 40" behemoth I've found it odd to go home from work and use it. The colours in particular are just incredible compared to the TN I use at work all day, the blacks also look quite amazing.

Certainly the best purchase I've made for my PC since SSDs started coming out, I'm never going back to a TN at home again. :D

I've had this monitor for a fortnight now and am still amazed at the quality of the image. At its best it looks like you've got a real life picture painted on the screen. I had a matt coated IPS and it looked pap compares to this in my opinion, though the glossy coating may be contributing a lot to that.

Yeah I've just been playing Metro Last Light in 4k on this monitor and it is truly glorious!

After SLI-ing my Titan X, I'm definitely getting the real benefit of this monitor and a constantly smooth game-play experience at all maxed out settings! ;)

This monitor and SLI TX's have been the best PC upgrades I've ever made! :D

Well worth the money!! :)

I'm really confused here..

Quite a few of you are saying that this monitor scales well to 1080p/1440p but I find that to be completely the opposite, it's blurry and not clear at all.

Especially in games, it's awful.

What settings are you using to make it clear at 1080p/1440p?

Or is my monitor faulty?

Running non-native res never looks good but it's even worse if you're dealing with a 40" screen.

If you have to run a game at 1440P and you want it pin-sharp, you'll have to run it windowed.

@SGTMASON

sorry to be off topic...but do u do anything to stop ya chair moving backwards while playing dirt rally....i cant use my wheel on my wood flooring as i keep sliding my chair everywhere and soon as i brake im goin backwards across me room lol

Yeah its a problem for me too, but I have a couch behind me that I pull up to brace the chair against...

Probably be better to remove the casters but then the height isn't perfect unfortunately...

I feel your pain brother! :(

Anyone else find all there windows rearranged after the pc entered sleep/standby/hibernation??????

I use displayport 1.2 and had this annoying issue since April in both windows 8 pro and since yesterday windows 10 pro.

Well here's the work around: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...r/1653aafb-848b-464a-8c69-1a68fbd106aa?page=1

Had to ajust at least 5 or 6 things to 3840 and 2160 but its worked very well for me. Was so annoying having to rearrange all my windows....

It's a pet peeve of mine to be honest. As you say quite a few are claiming excellent scaling at 1080p or 1440p but they are wrong pure and simple. Anything other than native res or no scaling will result in a blurry mess. Anyone who says it does are being disingenuous IMHO.

If you need better FPS then set a custom non-scaled 21:9 resolution of 3840x1620. It gives excellent results in more demanding games.

Wow disingenuous... yea just purposely trying to lie to achieve ummm what?
