*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Do you interrogate people for a living or something? :p

Pretty ironic :) I thought forums are meant to share info ask questions and learn about things?

Cloud sounds interesting to me but if experts on here know more than MS and can tell us why MS are talking rubbish then it would make my console buying decision easier.

It was a joke, in case you missed that. It was more the fact that you were asking the same questions whilst not really adding anything.

In any case, this whole page belongs in the Xbox thread, not the PS4 one.

it's all marketing BS, simple as, if you want to know more then do some research, google it, simples.

for example how can you expect in real time a processor in america to do calculations for you and send the data back in time for it to be useful? even if it is based in the UK you could be up to 600 miles away from it and latency would make it impossible to use.

e.g.

you send the data to cpu (takes 100ms or more depending how large the data is and your connection speed and quality)
cpu does calculations (takes a further amount of time depending on how large the data is and how complex the equations are)
sends data back (takes 100ms or more depending on how big the data is, etc, etc)
your xbox then has to process the sent back data (takes a few ms)
your xbox then has to send this data onto the tv (depends on your tv but on average another 50ms)

you can see how laggy this would become and therefore unusable in games which rely on smooth gameplay, like fps, sports, racing, anything speed based basically.

What are the numerous reasons this is not possible?

And why are you getting so touchy? you clearly know more about this than MS so your expert opinion is most welcomed here?

Like i said do your research, it's been covered by a few tech sites.

Now, Eurogamer's tech-minded Digital Foundry has examined Microsoft's claim to see how feasible it really is. DF notes that it all boils down to latency and bandwidth. Bandwidth is a particularly sticky issue, as current transfer speeds aren't even close to what consoles can achieve on local hardware, ruling out any possibility for real-time calculations in the cloud. There are some less intensive possibilities though, including Microsoft's own example of lighting. DF notes, however, that such lighting would be slow to update, making it best suited for things like time of day changes.

My expert opinion is based of actual expert opinion.

Guess you dont understand what marketing spin is?

No game will "rely" on cloud computing

MS have suggested games could offload some of the background processing for low-latency stuff, if desired.
It's touted as being there for low-latency background calculations etc., so a slow connection isn't necessarily an issue.

No doubt there will be some minimum requirement though speed wise.
Stop saying low latency when you mean latency independent :p

EDIT: Its gotta be a cold day in hell when Craterloads outsmarts you . Thats gotta hurt :p

ps3ud0

So it's not your expert opinion at all, could have just linked to it in the first place :)

Maybe the cloud is not short term but more 5 years down the line?

LOL do you take that approach in the tv forum? no didn't think so, so why is everyone so precious in console gaming yet they are willing to impart their knowledge in other sections? very strange.

I never claimed to have an expert opinion, that’s a label you attached. Why link to something that’s considered general knowledge and common sense. Only an idiot would need it explaining to them, because they believed MS's marketing waffle. You would think people on a computer forum would know better, apparently not.

Hey, dont you forget about the controller :D

Let's leave it at that then :)

Was it MS who said that and why is that BS?

Yes MS said you get three free cloud Xbones for every Xbone you buy.

I'm not sure why we need to buy a physical Xbone if they can just send me 3 over a 10MB connection, but you can't under estimate the power of the cloud it appears as it is infinite.

So, as long as you are ready for infinite power you shouldn't be disappointed. Its all good stuff.

Infinite Xbones..... Almost makes £600 seem too cheap!

If you've detected a hint of sarcasm its because this post is dripping in it.

i take i bought a GT50 and a D8000 both brand new with 5 year warranties and 2 sets of 3d glasses for under £800 each at random then with no research what so ever in the past year?

theirs just elitists who bought kuro's for £4K+ years ago who are now butt hurt that quality tv's are so cheap nowadays, sure they may not offer the exact same black levels, but black levels aren't everything and they are not that much behind the top sets for a fraction of the costs.

seems to be if you didnt own a kuro or seen one in action you know nothing about tv's.

anyway read my post above (the parts you didnt quote), it clearly shows why cloud computing is BS for real time games performance.

Hear hear!

Anyway,I can't wait to see what the PS4 actually looks like.

Would be nice to actually see the console, and not just the controller. I'm not expecting anything much TBH.

There was a teaser going around the net it was in digital spy I think? It didn't show much, in fact nothing at all.
