*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

So what are you guys doing in terms of powering it off? standby or proper shut down?

Depends if I plan to access it remotely later ;)

PS - Tried out PS vita remote play at work today - awesome stuff! - surprised it worked bearing in mind I had three routers and the internet in the way!

So you're saying the leap from 16 bit consoles to things like the PS1 was a smaller step than 720p > 1080p and a few bells and whistles?

I thought the same. Nothing wil beat the transition from bitmap to polys.

Amiga/Megadrive/SNES > PS1/N64/Dreamcast. That was the moment. Everything else since is just slight increments.

Do you know which port needs to be forwarded on your home router for remote access? I changed routers since I last used PSP Remote play so cant recall which port it used over the internet.

I'f you've got a Upnp compatible router I don't think you need to mess with it (My Asus RT-N66U simply just worked). At work we have a Cisco something or the other router conneced to a Belkin router acting as an Access Point - which is why I was surprised it just worked!

More info on ports and stuff here mate: http://community.us.playstation.com...remote-play-via-Internet/td-p/42201339/page/6
Sorry games sites are blocked at work so not sure if this is the right link. I found one last night which detailed the exact ports if peeps were struggling.

do you even know the resolution and fps most games were on ps3?

it's a huge jump going from less than 720 HD res and 30fps to 1080P @ 60fps.

most of the games on ps3 were below 720 HD res and upscaled.

I have yet to try Remote Play 'remotely' - problem for me on PS3 was that allowing the remote turn-on caused my router (DIR-655) to constantly advise the PS3 to turn on.....so, would essentially need to leave the PS3 on.

Would be good if it works now, though - I have a 3G Vita so will try it in various scenarios. IIRC it won't work over it's own 3G(?), but might be able to tether it to my phone via a WiFi Hotspot to try...

SNES to PlayStation 1 was a big jump, ps1 to ps2 wasn't it was just smoother looking but ps2 to Xbox 360 and ps3 once uncharted 2 and 3 came along the jump was noticeable..

Use the stock checking website it's called informer or something.

On another note I'm wondering how many of people are using this console on a 1080p panel.

I think it would be wasted on anything less tbh the graphics are amazing for launch and if they do get better with time this console I would say is the best ever made.

Nothing has had such a huge leap in graphics before as this on a console in the past 20 years

Comical.

What these guys say.

it's not just the resolution and frame jump thats making it such a big leap.

it's all the extras on top too, like you can turn AA on in war thunder, etc.

the games are a lot bigger, in terms of map size, far more texture detail, models look unbelievable. everything has improved by a large margin.

i have just never been this impressed before, apart from the era of goldeneye for n64 or the original driver on ps1

It's def a big jump in performance. Not just graphics grunt but all that memory. The fact that Killzone is a launch title and looks equal if not better to any current PC game (I run 4770K/290X/1440P) gives an indication of how much a leap this new hardware is. Rendering in 1080P isn't easy, as the Xbone shows. I was skeptical of the PS4, but once you try it, you realize it's a big step forward. In it's design it might be more of a step forward for consoles than previous gens.

I tired this last night, was bit annoying after a while as it was really sensitve and unbeleivably responsive, the sliiiiggghhtest move of my head in any direction and the screen would pan also in exaclty the same direction lol, I had to keep my head perfectly still lol

Still very, very impressive :)

With the "Wifi direct" turned on, remote play only works if i'm in the same room as the PS4. With it off, it's jerky even in the same room.

Running a Netgear DGND3300. Tried remote play in bed last night, the "XMB" or whatever they're calling it now worked fine, but Killzone was unplayable, and even when it did work, it was a blocky, low-resolution mess on the vita, like it didn't have enough bandwidth to stream it properly.

p.s. my room is about 15/20 feet away from the PS4.... so not far at all.
