*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

@TheVoice your not buying a console because of the ds4 battery life, it's really not that bad. Mine is connected back to console every night and i've never seen the low battery sign, with my longest session probably about 6 hours (damn work ;) )

Finally bit the bullet and ordered myself a PS4 wiv Knack, to go with my Vita. Getting delivered on Christmas Eve :).

I may get a 2DS and a Wii U to replace my Wii and for Mario and Zelda (when the Wii U gets another price drop).

I'm not buying the PS4 yet for a multitude of reasons I've already discussed on here (despite having a pre-order initially), but yes, poor battery life is one more reason. If it's bad now, it's going to be even worse in a few years time when wear and tear has taken effect.

The controller will go all day and more, if you need more than that you have issues.

Defensive much?

Battery life is more than enough for any gaming session, then you can simply recharge it before the next one.

Personally I wait until it dies then plug it into the phones charger which is right beside me.

Theoretically I could have it plugged into the phone charger and play non stop until something dies.

Poor battery life simply isn't an issue IMO.

Other people could simply rotate controllers, one on charge whilst using the other.

I don't really think its a big issue

It may as well just be a wired controller in that case. I'm sure as hell not buying one until they improve the battery life.

There is plenty of life in the controller, stop getting your knickers in a twist, buy two if it's going to be a problem which it's not, i have two charging in a dock when not using the ps4, have done many a hour gaming and have yet to see mine go below two bars.

That's great, but I do. I intend for the PS4 to effectively 'replace' my PS3 in my TV cabinet (seeing as I won't have additional space nor HDMI ports) so I can wait until they fix all these niggles and bring back functionality that they've removed e.g. media server streaming. I'd rather not be paying full whack to beta-test a product.

Either that or it'll have to replace my 360, which is looking like the more favourable option at the moment considering I've barely had reason to turn it on all year.

That's a bit like telling someone to buy two phones when they're not happy with their battery life. Absurd.

Anyway, nice to see that the Christmas spirit hasn't dampened the defensive, hostile mentality of the forum.

I don't read that many threads fully so missed your other reasons, but the battery life is fine. Lack of content would have been my reason had i not got mine cheap, but having now had it since day one I would have payed full price and still enjoyed it :)

It's not hostile :(, do you not plan to have two controllers, for example playing FIFA with mates or something.

I think I kicked off the latest comments regards the battery life so sorry about that, it is something you feel you need to charge every couple of days which didnt even happen when my DS3s were on their way out. I appreciate the DS4 is doing more things so lower battery life perhaps should be expected...

Im quite happy to charge them and it doesnt really affect my game time - the main issue is that outside of these workarounds if Sony did give us some options regards how intense the Move light is that would be a godsend, especially to the majority of PS4 owners that dont have the camera.

Im not suggesting the LEDs have to be switched off (supposedly you can easily double the life of the controller doing this) just bright enough to identify the controller if required. Honestly something as simple as increasing the brightness only when the camera is active would be lovely fix to the issue. Or if the controller is held vertically as if you are looking at the Move light to check which controller you have (nice use of sixaxis motio tracking)...

First of all we aren't beta testing anything, the console is a retail released device and works brilliantly and is far more powerful than its direct competition.

Second of all its the cheapest top end console ever made, if you think £349 is top whack then I take it your either extremely tight or poor.

My phone costs about that much for example.

Obviously it will be cheaper in two years time but so will my phone, so too are games if you wait two years after their original release.

Its certainly not overpriced and nowhere near top whack. Its also worth paying for now than waiting two years to save £50-£75

Thirdly its also not an issue for you unless you plan on gaming for longer than 10+ hours in one straight session.

It just means that you need to plug it in more often when your not using the console. If you plug it in after every gaming session your fine

PS4 is selling so well can't see price drop any time soon from Sony especially when there is no competition regarding price.

Personally I don't think they will drop the price at all until MS announces theirs first.

Then they will drop accordingly.

Right now they are in the driving seat and just need to counter rather than attack

Please do point out specifically where I said it was overpriced. Calling me "tight or poor" seems rather uncalled for too; top-whack meaning the highest price it's going to sell for, obviously. If it's £350 in 6-8 months time but has a better library of games and the bugs are fixed, then I'll pay it.

You really do have a way with words like nobody else on this forum, I'm amazed it hasn't got you into more trouble.

As for the controller, I simply find it a bit off-putting that I'd potentially need to plug the controller in every time I'm finished using it, when I can happily just put my DS3 down and walk away knowing it's still got a few days of life in it when I come back. It's not the single deal-breaker because like I said, I'm in no mad rush for a PS4 now (PS+ has seen to that) and can gladly wait for all the bugs and niggles to be fixed and see what happens with regards to Sony re-considering their stance on media streaming. Either way, I'll be getting a better product at that time than I would now.

Enough of this now, the Australian summer is calling and sitting indoors on an message board isn't going to get me a tan.

Could just have a option to turn it off but if the camera is plugged in it's auto set to on.

It just isn't really needed without the camera for anything other than identifying which controller is which. Could hold the option button to turn the light on or something for that. It needs to be thought about and sorted.

Yeah its not a massive issue, but I can identify with the swathe of people that wont have the PS4 camera who wonder the value of the light beyond controller identification (and for that purpose lets be honest its overkill). I can see it easily affording most people another 'average days worth of gaming' if it was toned down so I dont think its a small insignificant win.

Im sure it can be easily modified, whatever happens it would just reduce the amount of cycles going through the inbuilt battery and make the DS4 as a whole last longer. I dont think its a moan that really is that objectionable considering the pluses if it was addressed.

I think its a moan borne out of a late decision from Sony not to bundle the camera with the console but not tinkering with that adjusted experience...
