*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Yeah, I think something will be done. I actually have the camera and other than the face recon at sign in (which I barely use) I still fail to see the value of the light. Upgraded batteries will soon start to pop up and I might upgrade one of my controllers.

As I do find myself charging the controller a fair bit, But then I have the console in stand by and we can now charge like that. It's a niggle, but not something that stops me loving my ps4:)

Most of the obvious omissions and niggles will be sorted with future firmware updates, of that I'm confident :)

That's great, but I do. I intend for the PS4 to effectively 'replace' my PS3 in my TV cabinet (seeing as I won't have additional space nor HDMI ports) so I can wait until they fix all these niggles and bring back functionality that they've removed e.g. media server streaming. I'd rather not be paying full whack to beta-test a product.

Either that or it'll have to replace my 360, which is looking like the more favourable option at the moment considering I've barely had reason to turn it on all year.

That's a bit like telling someone to buy two phones when they're not happy with their battery life. Absurd.

Anyway, nice to see that the Christmas spirit hasn't dampened the defensive, hostile mentality of the forum.

Those who have used the controller are merely pointing out that you are being absurd, whereas you who haven't used the controller are saying that they are absurd.

I would like to know what difference it makes to the whole gaming experience rather than plugging the controller in to charge once a week (or whatever it was for a DS3, I didn't exactly keep a log of when I charged it) that you now plug it in every second or third day?

It takes 2 seconds to do, it's the exact same type of cable used for most modern phones, etc. I plug my mobile in to charge every night so got no issue with plugging this in after a session, you just get into a routine of doing it, so it becomes second nature.

It's not a big issue, the rubber peeling off is a far bigger one and is the only "bug" I can think of which needs fixing.

I have the official charge station and at night when I have finished using the controller I stick it on there. It means they are always charged and it is a nice stand as well.

The battery is a bit worse on the DS4 but it's not a massive difference. I only need to charge it after a few days, which is what I used to do with my DS3 anyway.

would a USB Extension cable work on the PS4 and controller ?? got one in the loft at my parents place just wondering if it would work as the distance from my chair to the tv is fairly long and i can't find a decent micro cable

A USB extension should work.

Personally I find the battery life to be considerably less when compared to the DS3. The DS3 would last days. The DS4 will last hours. I agree with above though, it isn't exactly a big problem, it's the stick wear that is really peeving me off.

The battery in the DS4 is naff, especially compared to the replaceable AAs in the XO pad, and the inability to switch the LEDs off does it no favours.

However, the fact you can charge in standby now makes it a non-issue IMO. I just wish Sony would provide a longer USB cable, as the one in the box is only any good if you're sat right on top of the TV and want to play whilst charging, same with the PS3. I sit 6ft away and it doesn't reach unless I lean forwards.

Ass creed is 20 for the ps3 on the psn store, I can upgrade this for £10 right?

Don't see why not although it's £11.99 for the upgrade.

Going back to the DS4, mine has lost it's grip coating on at least a third of the left analogue stick after peeling away over the last 3 weeks. It's pretty shoddy and I'm amazed that it's not been picked up in the mainstream gaming media yet, as it seems to be quite a widespread issue.

Pretty sure any longer micro\mini USB cable will do.

Will try one out to see.

The longer the cable the longer it takes to charge especially if using the console USB ports. Using a 2A mains charger will charge a DS4 in about 30 mins..

I assume you can plug the DS4+Charging Cable into any USB wall charger (like the one that came with my iPhone/iPad)?

Yes.

Just use any phone charger.
