*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

I got one of those (though I have no idea where I put it), but the dude mentioned a headset. My understanding of the word headset is it includes a microphone as well.

Not that it matters to me too much - picked up a headset for 15 quid. The sound quality is awful, but it'll last me a while until something better and not outrageously expensive becomes available.

well that includes a mic so it is a headset albeit a terrible one.

Drive Club is an example of a game that I lost interest in due to delays. Although did I read it will be free on PS+? In which case of course I'd play it.
I'm happy if people don't use headsets to be honest, I don't really play MP games and when I do I don't want some scrote shrieking on the other end.
I appreciate on some games it is useful though for coordination.

Can somebody please tell me the difference between the 3 audio choices available in settings. Linear, DTS and something else I forgot.

Which one should I choose, I have my ps4 connect to an av receiver

Cheers

Linear is the best from what I gather. I use that with my Sony AV receiver.

I think some like their reciever to show/light up with what it is decoding which doesnt happen with Linear PCM - sadly as Im using optical Bitstream is still useful...

ps3ud0

PCM is uncompressed, Dolby True HD and DTS HD are Lossless compressed, DTS and Dolby digital are heavily compressed.

If you set the PS4 to output PCM it is doing the decoding of the audio channels and sending them to the amp. Any other setting is the AMP doing the decoding and converting back to PCM.

The best option is to use PCM but you will not get any decoding lights on your amp. If that bothers you use one of the HD audio streams as tbh I doubt you will be able to tell the difference.

mine is set to PCM, I don't care my amp decoder doesn't show anything other then its on. Provided it spits the sound out : - ) PCM is fine for me.

But, netflix always shows primary 2 channel, maybe someone can explain this to me, but I'd have thought it'd decode 5.1 if the stream has 5.1 so am I missing something?

My smart TV has netflix, this displays 5.1 so I'm confused.

So the PS4 netflix app has a bug/ issue?

I'm currently using my smart TV for netfix, so basically my Ps4 is used for just games - good job it does that well lol but would have been nice to have used netflix as it was so well done on PS3.

PCM is the best for SQ

I leave it on auto for output as some games on the PS3 weren't designed for 1080P and if you chose 1080P only they would mess up and show in SD instead of 720P or whatever they were designed for. However I have a feeling all games on PS4 will be 1080P so think I may force that on this console.
