*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

The left thumb stuck on my PS4 is really starting to peel away now. How do you get these returned and how long do you have to wait without a pad?

Take it back to the store they should issue a exchange if they give you hassle and say return it to Sony, tell them the first six months of warranty is their problem. I recommend these thumb grips it does add a bit of extra size to the thumb sticks but its comfortable.

Sony do not have to provide any warranty to the consumer. Your statatury rights is with the retailer anything offered by Sony is in addition.

I would take the controller back to the retailer and ask for it to be replaced by them.

Now that the PS4 is in stock everywhere, are there any games worth getting that is truly worth getting yet? Something on par with GTA5 or Uncharted etc.

I'm pretty sure that top line panny plasma's are full rgb compatible. My ps4 has auto on those settings and I'm sure that mine must be handshaking with the ps4 and telling it the best settings.

For instance my ps4 knew I am using a 50 inch screen automatically. Yet when I was round at my mates who has a low end panny plasma none of the settings were set up automatically and there was zero option to set the screen size, etc.

If you really want to know the best setting refer to the manual. But even then it may require you to pretend that its a PC you have connected and not a ps4 by changing the name of the input labels accordingly.

Not at the moment I own PS3 & PS4 nothing on the PS4 comes close to GTA 5 or Uncharted, the next big game is infamous second son which is out on march having said that I have not tired Assassins Creed 4 yet which is meant to be great game.

Assassins Creed is very good although the main story missions are awful unless you like hiding in bushes and following people. Thankfully the ship combat and pirate side of the game is fantastic and well worth playing for.

It has no way of knowing 50 is just the default setting, that's what my PS4 was set to out of the box anyway.

We really need more information about how the PS4 works to find out which is best (if any), from what I've read PS3 simply took Limited RGB and stretched it out to Full so I think PS4 will probably be the same if true?

Like this if it makes sense:

---15-------125--------235--- Limited
15----------125-----------235 Full

Which could mean that Whiter than white and Blacker than black are missing in Full mode but it really depends on how PS4 video output works and if they're used for games.

I suppose it could be doing it the other way around and compressing the number of colours in Limited, like this:

---0--------125--------255--- Limited
0-----------125-----------255 Full

But I have no idea really we'd probably need clarification from Sony.

I ran Tomb Raider 1600p with 2xSSAA on 2 7970s when I played it last with tress FX and the cutscenes went down to 9fps at one point. Outdoors was mostly 50-60fps in gameplay though. With TR on ps4 I'm actually getting better performance than a maxed out pc version albeit at 1080p but really honestly it is the better of the two versions and was well worth the full price again to experience all the new little touches. The drops to 40fps are only noticeable if you spin the camera from inside a cave to a massive external clifftop vista.
I'm not missing the SSAA as the game looks more detailed now anyway - there is actually new ground textures that you get amazing closeups of in certain scenes and with this fxaa our eyes are spoiled!

Trying Killzone yesterday for the first time ever was breathtaking and I feel even better looking. It appears to run a high framerate sometimes and a smooth framerate nearly always though when evacuating level 1 on the drop ship it chugged a bit.

Overall so impressed with new console! Makes my xbox one feel a little less powerful.

Got my order in for a PS4. Should be here Friday 14th. Getting FIFA, BF4 and Killzone and I have Infamous SS on pre-order.

I'm still concerned it might not work on my Toshiba 32RV635 though!

Just saw the trailer for that, not really my thing, wish PS4 is backwards compatible, there are 3 to 4 games I wanna play on it.

Guess I will wait a bit more.

oh by the way I got a lite-on m3s 512gb ssd out of an alienware laptop and my first usb stick a 4gb corsair flash gave errors trying to install to it but it worked with a samsung slow white 16gb stick. To gain an idea of load times when I die in killzone there is no loading screen I just respawn instantly and I assume there is normally a loading screen.

Regardless of the way the PS4 works you have three settings

auto, full or limited.

now if you have read up on the manual or contacted your tv manufacturer for clarification then you will know which one to set it to.

if you have a full rgb compatible tv then set it up to use full (may need to change the input to PC on some tv's) and set it to full on the console.

if you don't then use limited.

doesn't matter how the PS4 uses the RGB profiles if you know what your tv uses you just set it to the same one.

i did some reading and my tv has a HDMI content detection built in, so my tv automatically adjusts the picture depending on the HDMI signal.

one example of this is every time a console is detected it automatically puts the tv into game mode (lowest input lagg). another example is every time a 3d signal is detected it automatically puts it onto 3d mode, etc.

so i have left all my settings on auto and left HDMi detection on that way it should work out by itself the best settings to use hopefully. if you have a low-mid end tv limited is probably the best setting to use though. if your using a monitor then full. auto is probably best if you have a high end tv and don't know what it's capable of and have HDMI content detection enabled.

BF4 is excellent IMO. I think the first "must have" game for the PS4 will be Infamous which is out next month.

But if the PS4 is native 'Limited' and stretching the band of colours to support 'Full' then that would likely make RGB Full inferior on a normal TV, so it's important to know how the PS4 works internally to get the best IQ.

This post explains it best but whether PS4 operates differently I don't know:

I think the reason why there is so much confusion is Sony's use of the term 'Limited' which suggests it's inferior, on most TV's it's referred to as a 'Normal' black level.

what's even more confusing is the super white setting and whether you need to have that on or not?

i've just left it all on auto tbh, the console and tv should work it out by itself hopefully.
