*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

My PS4 has started to just randomly eject discs when it is off. Even if nobody is moving or anything, all of a sudden it'll just eject the disc. Sometimes when it comes on it is totally locked up for a good few minutes and wont take the disc back in.

Is it on its way out??

sounds like the sensor or drive is having issues. you could replace the sensor or just buy digital only games and not have a disc inserted at any time. nobody could tell you for sure if it's on it's way out as build quality tends to be one of sony's good points albeit i had a console with a crappy bluetooth antenna.

i ended up selling it on second hand and buying the new c chassis to resolve that

Has anyone had any success with opening and cleaning the inside of the system?

Mine gets really loud when I try gaming. Out of warranty, so no issues there.

I did but it made zero difference, I was surprised at how little dust was even in it! Had it since launch but even after cleaning it certain games regardless send ny fan nuts tends to be warframe and uncharted4 that send mine into jet plane noise mode

Can someone please let me know the difference between the V1 and V2 controller? I understand there's a front facing light bar and that the V2 controller can be connected via USB for improve latency, however, I'm more curious with regards to build quality / durability.

I just got a PS4 Slim with the V2 controller and am looking for another one, so was wondering would it be worth going with a V1 if there's a better deal around.

Just done mine and it has definitely worked! Before, I could simply just load up games like Lords of the Fallen, DriveClub and even the new PS+ game (Stories: The Path of Destinies) and it would instantly sound like a turbine going off.

I firstly removed the front panel and used the hoover with the long nozzle attachment and went around the PS4's vent. I used a brush attachment that has bristles that worked well on doing underneath the panel and the casing. I checked the PS4 after this and it seemed to do a good job but it still romped up a little.

so I decided to go the whole way and removed the casing, I did attempt to remove the grey casing (not sure what under this?) but one of the screws was being a pain and wouldn't come out. So after I gave the top a little vac using the brush, I used a small hand brush to push the dirt on the fan down to the bottom of the case, so it would become loose. I used the bristle brush attachment again, so I could try vac up the loose dirt.

After everything was then put back together, it isn't sounding horrible and I might even start gaming on it again :D My PS4 is a launch day also, so happy enough with how it now sounds.

I used these two videos:

Yep, made a noticeable difference. The heatsink gets utterly clogged with dust due to the design of it being sandwiched between the fan and the power supply, so the only way to properly clean it is to take it apart.

All you need is the right screwdriver (Torx Security T8 I think), a can of air and an old clean paintbrush. I recently took mine apart again to change the thermal paste and although it was quite dried out, it hasn't really made any further difference than just cleaning all the dust did.

The vents along either side of the console are where it takes in most of the air so keeping those free of dust will help.

It's more for aesthetics as I hate the cables plugged into the front of the console! The TV doesn't want to charge them unfortunately :(

Just saw a PS4 go on the MM for £110 with games  I might get the next one that comes up as the blu ray drive is knackered on mine and I've been quoted £80 to replace it

What's wrong with it?

I had to open up my PS3 drive years ago to clean it. Was a bit tricky with springs flying out but did get it working in the end.

Have a look on ebay for a replacement and swap it yourself.
