*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

i was thinking of getting a ps4 pro. i never thought sony would do a console upgrade halfway through a lifecycle but they did. anyway the new xbox which gets released soon is meant to be much more powerful even though ps4 has always been ahead of xb1 in this regard. makes me think what is to stop sony from releasing another console upgrade to compete? so i'm staying away for now and waiting for xbox to make their move then see what sony does.

i'd hate to buy a ps4 pro and then a new console is released next year.

I wonder if Playstation is just going to be a series of iterative upgrades now rather than completely different hardware platforms.

Talk of PS5 next year... I wouldn't be surprised. I'd jump to it but not a base PS4 to Pro.

PS5 this early into a lifecycle? the slim was only released at christmas and the ps4 pro shortly after. i'd say christmas 2019 at the earliest IMO.

it's crazy what they have done this time around as nobody really wants to be dishing out £400 every 2 years for a console.

i'm thinking of selling my xb1 which i've played a grand total of 5 times since i bought it. mint condition elite console with elite controller too. i'd get pennies for it. the controller is probably worth the same as the console now. which is why i'm keeping it.

i'll never buy 2 consoles again. going to stick with whoever has the most power in future.

Well it'll be 4 years this November since the PS4 released. I think next year is too soon. Another 2-3 for a PS5 I reckon.

which is why I don't want to shell out for a pro. Usually a console lasts sometimes up to 10 years easy. There was and still is no need for the pro IMO. All they had to do was wait it out for 3-4 more years then release the ps5.

there is no way they will make this console a 5 year lifecycle. it's usually near double that.

like i said before christmas 2019 at the earliest which would be okay with me.

PS3 to PS4 was 7 years so I'm just going with that. Of course things change so nothing is set and they could easily surprise us.

I skipped the Pro because I don't see it as enough for me to upgrade from my PS4. Scorpio though hmm is a hell of a leap so I might go for that. Though I've barely touched either of them since the Switch came out...

they think it will be christmas 2020. looks like 7 years is the usual lifecycle.

They only just stopped making the PS3. Amazing, really.

2019-2020 sounds about right. PS4 is still selling well I don't know why they'd bring something else in so soon.

There really is no indication of a PS5 before 2019-2020.
The console is still selling well. For those that want a boost or 4K there is the Pro. The Pro itself will not get any exclusives, so all PS4 owners can continue to enjoy all of the releases and platform exclusives.
We'll almost certainly see a re-tooling of the Pro before the end of the year, a "Pro Slim" if you like.
But as for next generation - certainly not yet.

Scorpio going to be the most powerful console on the market? Yup, certainly.
But questions are still being asked as to what customers are expected to pay for it, if it will offer "night and day" differences to warrant it's hefty price tag and if MS are going to go the opposite way to Sony with the PS4 Pro and allow "exclusives" or "special versions" on Scorpio which will both alienate and ****-off a lot of Standard X-Box owners.

Their parents will be cheesed off yet again.

Nobody has ever gotten the sounds right on any Motocross game. :/

The wet/muddy tracks look nice. The physics look horrible and stiff.

Hopefully, I prefer a long cycle between consoles. I can't keep up, well I can but its burning a hole in my pocket.

If only the PS5 would take the true advantage of solid state drives. I'd love to see a Playstation load games up in seconds like the PC.

What's the best 2tb drive to replace the standard one with? Getting annoyed having to constantly shuffle games on the 500GB.

did the 4.50 firmware update that allows USB external hard drive support completely pass you by? ;) just get a usb external drive and bung games on there. Much easier than mucking about replacing the drive. Plus you'll then have both drives as storage...

It did :p. I've not really touched my console for past 6 months or so, got some new games, then got annoyed at having no space again.

I'll just grab the first external I see on a decent deal then.
