This is the video that shows the vibration issue and the fix.

lol

"The way to fix it is either.
1. Put a weight on the top of the console by the lower left corner above the disc drive.
2. Place cards UNDER the console by the lower left corner. Itll fix it."

i pretty much did say this before you posted that, except from cards i said coaster

I'm more concerned as to what's causing it.

Just wanted to share a recent discovery. Tomb Raider was making my PS really loud, so much so I could hear it over my headphones (open back) from about 3 feet away.
I took the official stand off and laid horizontally and after about 30s it quietened down a lot. I was not playing the game, I just had it running on the same scene. I'm now considering selling it tbh.

I can kind of understand it, the vents are not obstructed at all horizontally but on the stand, despite having vents it's still only about 2cm from the table so it surely cannot dissipate as fast.

On a +, my Mixamp was finally despatched today from Holland so I look forward to testing it out later this week.

I can't comment on the lifespan, all I can say is there is an obvious drop in fanspeed/noise when laying flat opposed to on the official stand.

it's plainly obvious and I posted that too, the PS4 isn't 100% stable it has a slight wobble to it if you push down on the left side of it which can be fixed by sticking something underneath it on the left hand side. but under normal operation there should be no downward force on it (apart from gravity) so therefore its more of an issue with what its lying on.

even surely using common sense and using your finger to press down some force on the left corners you could see this was the case?

ideally they should have mounted rubber grips on the left hand side to make it 100% stable when horizontal, mine is pretty stable though since it's on a flat surface, obviously if your AV unit or flooring is not 100% flat this would exaggerate the issue further.

IMO it's not a problem for most people, in fact of the 4 different ps4's i have used it hasn't been an issue for either of them, they are all laid on perfectly flat surfaces.

it will probably be fixed in a later revision in which they will add additional rubber mounts to the left side of the console

edit:

looking on the internet apparently the ps4 only has 3 feet

so by placing somewhere in that corner makes it more stable and like a 4th foot

as to the whole vertical and horizontal debate it runs cooler when horizontal (less wear and tear). less likely to be toppled over. fits easier into AV units.

so horizontal for me, although wall mounting it is a cool idea where you stick the side that would be flat horizontally and have that sitting on the wall.
