Its getting one, the big titles are going multi plat by the looks.
I think he meant the whole industry needs to change, not just Microsoft/Xbox going multiplatform and Sony releasing the odd title on PC a year later ( which incidentally doesn't earn them that much money, as revealed in the Insomniac leak last year ). Games cost so much to develop now, at least in the AAA space, that it's simply not sustainable. A major flop could result in a loss of over £250 million. Then there is the length of time it takes to create these highly polished, cinematic games .... even a major developer is looking at 5+ years. Or in other words, us consumers can expect only one title per major developer for each console generation. In contrast to earlier generations that's a very low output.

Also that Sony are transitioning heavily to GaaS which means less games, but higher profit margins. Sony said previously as far back in 2022 that their Live Services would be day and date alongside PC. A bigger change would be if they decide to put out their big single player titles on PC at the same time. I feel like some of this 'lack of growth' in consoles narrative is also just a reflection of the market being so heavily invested in Live Services. But I do feel Sony need to be careful though. Their golden goose right now, 50% and climbing, is the revenue from PSN; digital games, DLC & MTX and subscriptions. I wonder if putting everything out there day and date on PC & PS is better in the short-term but will have impact in the long-term. Given how everything is a walled garden I can't help but thing it is those own a platform that will end up making the most.

If both Sony and Microsoft release their 1st party and live services games day 1 on PC, then I’ll be the first to abandon console ownership and move my PC into the living room. The hardware would be superior and multiplayer/online would be free. I’m certain millions of other people will be thinking the same. It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the gaming industry this year - I think it could be a defining period. I’ll still pick up the new Switch though !

Sony says the PS5 has peaked and its sales numbers are now in decline, Sony forecasts sales will continue to decline until the next generation arrives and within that context, it means the PS5 has now entered the latter stage of its lifecycle

But don't be alarmed ps5 owners, this doesn't mean the ps6 is around the corner, especially as the technology needed for a ps6 isnt here yet anyway. The PS5 probably still has another 3 years to go before a PS6 comes along

Sony also announced that the 2024 financial year will be a lean year for exclusives and that no first party PS5 exclusives are scheduled to launch between April 2024 and April 2025. Sony went on to say the next big AAA game, like a God of War or Horizon etc would only arrive towards the end of 2025

Damn don't know what happened on Tekken 8 tonight. I seemed to suddenly be getting matched with everyone miles better than me regardless of rank. I lost about 10 matches in a row and got demoted
What was that Tekken game on PS3 called? Tekken Evolution or something? I used to batter everyone on there and they banned me lol. The new guys didn't know I was an expert at Tekken 2...3...and The Dead or Alive games.I destroyed them :p

Speaking of next gen, Tom Henderson has provided insight into what he is hearing about what is coming in a few years

* Next Gen Xbox and PlayStation will be partially handheld systems, this may come in two variants where the handheld streams games only and the living room box plays games locally

* More and more games from 3rd parties will have platform exclusive content

* 3rd party publishers will cut down on their number of IPs and focus on proven IP rather than inventing new onea

* Games will cost between $80 and $100 as standard

Sounds very switch like (which I'm not against). I think we have to accept that every new gen is going to get a tenner more on games, doesn't mean you have to pay that though normally a few weeks/months down the line the price drops on new games.

And, due to the Insomniac leak, we already know what that title is : Venom. Then in 2026, it's Wolverine. After that we're moving into the PS6 era, I guess. Lean pickings for consumers the next few years ....

I can see some may do that, but most may not be able to afford or would want the hassle of a PC, console gaming is about simplicity (plug and play), a PC isn't exactly that.
