It's more that PC attracts the type of gamers who like to fiddle with settings, mods and things to make games look a certain way or to get maximum performance - it's always about maximising visuals or performance. And if you give these same players a console they become disappointed that there is no settings and no mods. So it's not that PC gaming requires the user to fiddle with settings, they really don't need to touch anything, it's just the type of gamer that wants to do those things

I think there is some truth to this but I also think a lot of the messing about on PC is inflicted on gamers owing to the kind of poor optimisation of games that is indicative of an audience with such a diverse range of hardware, drivers, operating systems and peripherals.

But yes, it is fair to say some PC gamers will tinker just because they can.

I do love to tinker as long as the outcome is a playable game. Problem is that lately most games are just too broken. Maybe I'm getting rusty :)

I spend 2 days trying to stop the stutter on Star Ocean The Divine Force. This was the most terrible excuse of a port that I have ever seen. No matter what I tried it was beyond anything I could do and no tweaking could solve it. Compiled shaders 4 times as well and still unplayable.

And in all fairness - with a 14900k and a 4090 - you shouldn't have to tinker. You should essentially be able to brute force through any issue.

I've no idea what age you are (hell I'm 48) or how your free time is used but do you not think 2 days spent trying to figure out a game is a waste of time?

I've been in PC gaming since the early 90's so since the DOS days so I've seen how the industry has changed and games today are a clusterduck mess. I just haven't the patience to spend time debugging and trawling through forums for hints at how to get things working when I could just hit an icon and have it working (PS5). I'm not saying all PC games are like this but the majority are and with the money you spend on them these days, they should be almost perfect.

My time is valuable and in the time that my mates have got a single PC game like AMS2 running I am well into one hour of console gaming because all they do is fiddle and patch etc before getting a session underway. Also Windows being utter spywhere trash since 10 matured is another reason I gave up but thats another topic.

We'll I'm pretty persistent and really wanted to play the game. But your right, my system should run anything but stutters are un-tweakable regardless of hardware by the looks of it. Frame rates yes, but stutters no. Bought the game on PS5 now so looking forward to it.

I'm 52, so a veteran like you. My time is also precious, so going back to the PS5 for now. I must have at least 200 games backlog in my library. Keep me going until the PS6 I suppose.

I agree with both you comments and I have never liked Windows either. Maybe it's time to permanently go console from now on.

All arrived and setup. First time using the new Dual Sense. Wow it's awesome in Astros playroom!
That game has no right to be as good as it is considering it's free.

My first time using the dualsense and getting to the 'ice' area of Astros Playroom was incredible, I do wish more games took advantage of it.

Yes ! And the soundtrack is phenomenal. I quite often revisit it on YouTube

46 here, my PC days are pretty much done.

Dont know if people are still struggling to get access, but I can share beta access key, if anyone wants it, it says I am allowed to invite friends so.

I think I might already have the beta installed even without the code as the listed beta features I can already do on the dash.

Wasnt installed, installing it now.

I'm the opposite. I have a huge backlog of PS5 games. Not much left to play in my Steam library.

PS5 pro, yes please;)

I think I have maybe 2-3 PS5 specific games, certainly feels such a threadbare library to me.

However the PS5 of course also acts as a hardware upgrade for the PS4 library meaning its not a huge loss.

Speaking of next gen, Tom Henderson has provided insight into what he is hearing about what is coming in a few years

* Next Gen Xbox and PlayStation will be partially handheld systems, this may come in two variants where the handheld streams games only and the living room box plays games locally

* More and more games from 3rd parties will have platform exclusive content

* 3rd party publishers will cut down on their number of IPs and focus on proven IP rather than inventing new onea

* Games will cost between $80 and $100 as standard

The first two sound horrible to me, especially the first one, makes the price increase seem like childs play in comparison.

Don't really care about no more new first-party IPs this year as my backlog is pretty huge and Sony exes have been getting samey for a good while now so maybe this will bring about a much-needed formula rethink.

I've been playing way less lately and the only game I can bring myself to play is Tekken 8 online on both PC and PS5. Yet to get the new Yakuza, Spiderman 2, FFVII Rebirth is coming, haven't finished Cyberpunk on PC, haven't finished my Bloodborne replay and countless other games, haven't played Gran Turismo for months and the list goes on and on...

I swear, I'm set for the upcoming ten years, especially since Tekken 8 will be alive for around a decade as usual and the rest combined are like 1000+h of gameplay, it's actually terrifying.

Heads up, Sony have got the PS5 slims at a reduced price until 25th February from their official store.

I got myself a digital console a few days ago; the reduced price is only for the disc version. From where I live, the digital version appeared to be sold almost everywhere, including the Argos stores, so I had to drive 35 minutes to pick one up from Smyth.

I was talking to my old school friend, whom I hadn't seen for ages, and we discussed PS5. He told me his siblings and friends said that PS4 graphics still look great today; they see little point in upgrading to PS5. I looked up the PS4 specs, and they can output to 1080p and the Pro version of up to 4K; that made sense to me as I played a couple of PS4 games on my new PS5, and they still looked great!

Screen res is not the same as performance, PS5 will outperform the PS4 on the same titles.

PS4 is still fine if you're on more of a budget, but I think most people who can afford to are moving to PS5 for better new game support and other improvements.

Just got a PS5 slim disc version from Smyth's toys booted it up and your can hear the fan spinning round and almost like a slight ticking/knocking sound from it.

Is this normal for the slim ?

Not loaded a game up yet so not sure how the fans will be then.

Doesn't sound right. Use it a few more times, see if it bothers you and return it if so.

Warzone with crossplay off is pretty good tbf. Ps5 when playing solos for me going forwards.

Still pretty sweaty but at least you know it's legit.
Especially considering Sony managed to also block the use of Cronus devices with their latest system software update. I don't think it was as many people using it as some would leave you to believe - but it's definitely great that they've done it!
