It’s a shame they didn’t include the more expensive controller.

To be fair if they had the controller, disc drive and stand and charged £700 I think the response would have been a bit more positive.

I’ll be buying this regardless as I am a sucker for new consoles.
It comes with a controller with upgraded battery supposedly . Don’t know how true that is though.

First I thought price was to high.

Then I thought about switching to PC.

Then I thought I'll get the Pro. Sell my slim PS5 for money towards in.

Now I'm thinking wait for real world reviews before I drop £700.

But having said that if I wait until after launch will it be a nightmare trying to buy one like it was with the PS5 at launch.

Guaranteed it will sell out at launch due to interest from hardcore PlayStation fans and artificial scarcity. After that initial wave though I think it should be straightforward enough to grab one. Same thing happened with PSVR2 and the PS Portal. This will not be like the PS5 …. for one, we aren’t in lockdown, and there is far less hype surrounding the Pro.

TLDR: if you want one for Xmas, put in a pre-order ASAP. If you can reign in your FOMO and wait for proper reviews etc then it will be easy to get one in Q1 next year.

I honestly don't think this will sell out. It's a more niche product and won't appeal to everyone, then there is the price.
It will massively depend on how many they make available in the UK, we're a pretty big PlayStation market but if they only have 5/10k available then I can see it selling out.

The price is one thing but lots of people here willingly put themselves in bags of debt all the time to have a car on PCP they can't afford and don't need - so a 700 quid console might be a drop in the ocean to them.

Remember the PS VR2..?!?! :D

That did so well in end being a niche product :p

VR has always been a niche though, and IIRC it was only sold through their own website for the first 6 months? I don't know anyone with a VR headset.

It's a different beast to a new console that promises better graphics and/or higher frame rates. This is where people start to get FOMO, because they start to believe that they're not getting the best possible experience out of the game.

I only know two people with a VR headset, one exclusively plays racing games and lives in his sim rig and the other doesn't ever really play games and just uses it to watch tennis/football like he's actually on the side of the pitch/court.

Feels like VR is still extremely niche.

Remember 3D tv’s? Yeah, that’s pretty much how VR comes across to me.

I’m probably wrong, old, and out of touch though.

I've sold my PS5 launch edition to a friend. Not that I was actively looking to sell, it just so happened over a conversation and TBH I didn't get to play it much other than the occasional FIFA 23 and FC24.

So now I suppose I'll be buying the Pro at some point. Though not at scalped/sold-out prices even if it means waiting a few months.

Gotta admit I'm struggling to find a convincing reason for going with the Pro over the standard now that I've sold it.

If you want to give some money away, you can send it to me!

Geez ... what's with the remasters of games that are only several years old ? Who wants that ? The original looks perfectly fine as it is, and if I was that desperate to play it with optimal visual quality/ high frame rate then I'd just get it on PC.

But this brings me back to what I said earlier in the thread : Sony have no 1st party games coming down the pipeline until at least Q2 2025. A new console is a hard sell without some interesting new games to justify it. They haven't thought this through properly ; perhaps should have done a Microsoft and foregone a mid-gen upgrade. Going to be hard to differentiate the PS6 from the Pro, at this rate.
