Oh yes, they definately WANT to kill the drive, but the sales numbers on the PS5 addon for the Pro/Slim is hopefully showing them there is still enough interest that it'd not be in thier best interests to drop it yet.
We'll see, it's Sony, they're arrogant at the best of times unfortunately.]
Only reason I went PS5 Pro and Disc is I got it for £650 all in (which is a much more reasonable raise vs the 450-500 the OG Disc console cost, considering the extra GPU/RT horsepower, developer available choice to go with 10% more CPU for CPU bottlenecked titles and the extra storage), I'd not have touched it at £800.
One thing that DID surpise me is how positively SVELTE it is vs my OG PS5, it really feels like the PS5 Gym edition, slim down, muscle up lol. The side covers to access the SSD slot and mounting point for the ODD are also much easier to remove than my OG PS5 as well, so at least they learnt something thier, although I'm not fond of the plastic A stand clip things and resting it on it's side, vs the proper horizontal stand they included with the OG. I also noticed compared to the OG, they really cut corners on the quality of the box/packing, the entire thing felt thinner and flimsier; maybe they thought they could get away with it due to the weight reduction, but does feel a little wrong on the more expensive PRO console.
