We all have them oof moments. It's all good though. Consoles are consoles though - gaming only, which is good. I'm more of a platform gamer though and a big fan of westwood/cncnet games.

I have fomo but it's less so now exclusives are not as common. Strategy games is one reason I will never give pc up.

I would never have a console and a PC at the same time. I used to have a PS1/PS2 before I had a PC but mainly hand held for platforms. If consoles fetched more platform games then I would consider it but at the moment I think PC still has an edge due to been universal for me. :)

It may not happen but I hope with the next generation of consoles Sony/Microsoft make more of an effort to add Mouse/Keyboard support even it it's just for non-competitive non-FPS titles where it doesn't give an advantage in multiplayer. Or even add an option for crossplay PC/PS4/Xbox titles where mouse/keyboard players are kept separate from controller players? It feels like they could work around those limitations and add it if there was a will to do so.

For example 2 games I own on both PS4/PC are Xcom2 and Elite Dangerous. Elite is basically unplayable without a keyboard for all the shortcut commands. Xcom2 is likewise a nightmare without mouse support. Even though I'd prefer to play those games sitting on a couch I always ran them on PC. If they had Mouse/Keyboard support I'd definitely run them on console instead.

Also, on another topic, that Digital Foundry video also confirms what I thought in that the new controller means the PS5 won't be backwards compatible with existing PS4 VR titles. Certainly not using the current PSVR headset and move camera at least. Hopefully the next PSVR2 headset will come with new controllers and tracking that can emulate the functionality of the move camera tracking. It would be a shame to lose backwards compatibility with all of the current PS4 VR titles on the PS5.

I've not watched the vid yet but surely there will be nothing to stop you connecting a Dualshock 4 to the PS5 to use VR assuming there's a port for the camera?

I use the touchpad a lot.
Even just having it as one big button, is handy in a lot of games I play.
Plus the light can be useful. I do a quick look down and see how close to death I am in Resident Evil 3 depending on whether I see Green, Orange or Red :)
Taking the lights and pad away would be a step backwards I feel.

I'd be fine if it was just a normal button, but the swiping etc. never feels good, just a gimmick in my opinion. I've never played a game where it was an integral part of the experience, and as it's PS4 only have many devs really utilised it? Happy to be proven wrong.

Reminds me of Nintendo's HD Rumble, is great when done properly but usually it isn't and just vibrates like crazy at max strength.

Also, regarding character health, can't you tell in RE3 by looking at your character on the screen more easily than looking down?

I guess not but historically peripherals/controllers have tended to not be compatible between different generations of console so it'll be interesting to see whether this trend continues with the PS5/XBSX.

Other than the adaptive triggers, missing blue tracking light and microphone there doesn't appear to be any actual reason you couldn't use a DualShock 4 pad with the PS5? Be interesting to see whether Sony support it?

Yeah, plus I remember Microsoft hyping up their XboxOne controller's "Rumble Triggers" and that was nothing but marketing nonsense so I'm a bit skeptical of the adaptive triggers. It sounds good if they can make it work though for things like breaking in racing games to mimic resistance.

I've seen a few games in PS4 make use of the touch pad for Pseudo-mouse support in things like Elite dangerous which was actually quite useful.

Days Gone did pad swiping good.
Swipe in all the compass directions when you want instant access to weapons/map/quests etc without having to navigate a menu...
I just feel like having the touchpad is good for devs who want to use it wisely, so am glad it's still there.

As for RE3, I find it's easier to take a quick 0.5 second glance down to see either red or orange, than trying to interpret how injured the character looks while walking in the heat of the moment.
(Don't use first-aid on orange, wait for red ;) )
Again, happy to have the lights there for devs that can use it cleverly instead of having the feature taken away.

PSVR is already confirmed to be PS5 compatible, so that would mean the port is going to be included on the console.
I cannot see why the Move Controllers and Gun wouldn't also be compatible and then attach a DS4 for anything using a controller.

Ahh I've not played Days Gone, been waiting for it to hit bargain bin prices, but will try at some point.

With regards to the light the best use I have seen of this was with GTA and the flashing red and blue cop car lights, combined with the radio chatter from the controller I was pretty impressed. Totally unnecessary but very cool :)

Yeah, I'd heard that which is why it's odd that the new PS5 controller doesn't appear to be compatible with PSVR/Move Camera as it lacks the rear light for tracking?

So from that you kind of have to assume that the existing DS4 controller, Move Camera, Move controllers and HDMI output box are all compatible with PS5 which surprises me to be honest! Don't get me wrong I really hope it is all backwards compatible and works fine but I didn't expect it!

Just a mock up but this looks great.

I’m expecting it to be a slightly less than conventional shape due to the speed of that GPU. It’s going to require some interesting cooling.
