Tell the market you are limiting production and regardless of price, it will sell out.

Prices went crazy for previous console releases when demand outstripped supply.

There will always be enough early adopters.

Tech cstomers are more than used to £600-£1200 mobile phones at launch now and £500-£900 pc graphics cards; so pricing won't even be a system shock.

I remember the PS2 Slim kept going for ages with strong sales after the PS3 launch as it was cheap gaming with a massive back catalogue bridging the gap for families.

I could see the PS4 doing the same with PS5 especially with the backwards compatibility meaning post launch PS4 purchases probably won't be wasted.

Exciting exclusives releasing at or shortly after launch is the only thing that will convince me to buy a PS5 early on. I imagine it will take a year or so for both consoles to establish a solid lineup of games and potentially for prices to come down a little bit, so that will probably be the point at which I buy.

I think at more than 500 it would be a hard sell, maybe 550-600 including VR maybe (not sure how much it is for the ps4).

Edit looking at the cost of the VR system that seems unlikely:p. I don't think many people do buy phones outright, I reckon no more than 10% as often there's no incentive do do so, in fact sometimes it's cheaper to do a contract (for current generation flagship). Would be interesting if they went down the MS route.

Just had a look, going down that route it's 25 quid a month for 18 months for an X so a very expensive way of doing it.

They need to drop the price given the One X has recently had a price cut. Prior to that it wasn't too bad considering it includes Game Pass Ultimate (£10.99/month). It was always cheaper to just buy the console and use offers to get Game Pass on the cheap though.

Fine with them charging 5-800 for a console that has some grunt to it. Not the pathetic low FPS chug fest runningat 480-720p.

Gamers have come of age, we have money. Parents will buy to shut tiny Tim up.

People pay for smart phones costing up to a grand.

I bought my 2XL outright I have a job it give me money I buy things what so hard to believe about that to the guy who said no one buys phones out right?!

I don't thinkhink people do. Not many have a grand living around, but paying £20+ a month Is far more affordable (and most of the time cheaper than buying the phone), I did the maths on my last phone and once you factor in the cost of a contract is soon much cheaper than buying a phone outright.

Which is why MS do their "All Access" program where you pay monthly.

MS already do it.
I know. I was replying to the post above mine stating that people are used to paying up £600+ for phones outright which isn't the case in my experience. Everyone is on a repayment contract.

I was always told on forums, never buy first gen.

You do tend to be a little bit of a test bench if you are an early adopter.

Not just for the hardware either, I remember Battlefield 4 was one of the games that drew me towards the ps4 at launch and you couldn't even complete the single player without it crashing and killing your save game. Think that went on for months, don't think I ever completed it but did put many hours into mp.

Kind of just want to see the thing now and it's games. No doubt we will have to wait till the end of June minimum as that is likely when they will have held something to counter MS at the now cancelled E3

I bought my PS4 at launch and didn't regret it, same with PS4 pro still going strong now.

I haven't decided on this at launch yet due to lack of info on games launching with it

I'll be getting it day one, other than the consoles sounding like jet engines both stood up well and recently just fixed it.

Yeh I may just skip it for now. I bought a day 1 Pro. It sounds like a jet engine.

Did the same but just fixed it and now so much quieter. Cost me like £50 though but worth it for not having to listen to the missus complain.

Surely the fan noise drowned out her complaints? :p

Yeah I would have thought so too! :p:D

It was loud as hell though to the point I could hear through my headset. Now I can't even hear it properly without, just did a full system clean, new paste, new thermal pads and fan.
