I thought we’d be at the stage now where devs are mastering the hardware and optimisations and getting every last drop out of it.
Some can. See what Insomniac or Sony Santa Monica can get out of the hardware. The games are up there with the best looking ever and with great performance. First party studios always seem to be able to get the most out of the hardware but if they can do it then why can’t others? Cross-gen still playing its part I suspect. Still a lot of PS4 users out there.

They're still ahead though, and 20% can make all the difference between reaching and not reaching 60fps. Then there's DLSS which is just better overall.

The problem is 4000 series is a joke apart from the stupidly priced 4090 so we'll have to wait for 5xxx and AMD's next move.

I'm not saying there's a tremendous difference, I'm saying it can't do native 4k 60fps in most cases, which it can't. There's a difference depending on the game though, some people notice it less, some more. I don't mind personally unless it drops under 60fps constantly even when upscaled.

I don't scrutinise pixels myself or fuss over small differences in image quality.
Does the latest version of dissertation add in fake frames though?

Yeah, 3.0 has frame generation but I don't think the added latency would be a big deal in single player games and the performance uplift would be extremely beneficial on consoles. But what I meant is that DLSS in general produces better results than FSR in terms of upscaling.

If the PS5 had an actual 2070S or 2080S on board, which are already getting pretty long in the tooth, we could get some decent RT stuff especially with 40fps VRR modes on DLSS2.0 alone.

I've only played one game where I was able to choose graphics mode whilst still having 60 fps and that was Ghost of Tsushima. Are there any more?

Every other game has had to be played on performance because 30 fps sucks.

Finally sold my pc on these forums (4090, 13900KS etc) to return to console life.

I’d be lying if I said the change from 120fps in every game to 30fps wasn’t jarring, but after 30mins I adjusted.

PS5 feels so good, straight to the point, insane loading times, no worrying about tweaking settings, driver updates etc.

And honestly in some games the PC version wasn’t much better. Final fantasy VII remake for example looks the same in my eyes!

The bigger issue is game prices, even using shopto Psn credit games on PSN are high. Being able to buy pc games from key sites dirt cheap was great. I’m hoping the big sale starting tomorrow has some good prices.

Anyway Roll on Spider-Man 2……

They're taking the wee wee a bit - this is the first gen where I wait, or buy second hand primarily now, as coughing up more than 40 quid doesn't sit well with me.

I'd quite like the TLOU re-remake, but I've purchased that game three times already, no way am I paying more than 35 for it now!

Totally agree.

I know the other alternative is to use PS extra as all first party games should go there eventually but I’m not a fan of waiting, and Sony have even removed first party games like Spider Man, last of us part 2 etc.

Initially I thought these subscription services were great but I’ve realised I prefer owning the games.

Like yourself though I tend to wait for certain games. Last of us remake is a perfect example. I think that will be on sale tomorrow but whether the discount is good enough only time will tell.

If it's at my biting point of around 35 quid, I'll probably grab it - but otherwise, I'll wait. Played the game dozens of times through anyway :D

You can get PSN games cheap if you willing to put in 10 mins of work creating a new account for Turkey and setting up a virtual Visa card. Tutorial is on Hot UK Deals.

My tips for cheaper games - vinted is great for used physical, psn sales and the ps plus exclusive discounts often have good deals (the website psprices enables you to sort by discount % which is handy). Hotukdeals websites often highlights sites with game specic deals. On YouTube gamecross is pretty good at good games below a certain price content (although slightly too jrpg centred at times but definitely worth a watch he posts content daily).

A friend of mine uses boomerang rentals, decent alternative for those who play a lot and like flexibility

You can buy the plates and controller separately on PS Direct BTW, pre-orders on the 28th of this month. So much for the slim model that some have been preaching that they are 100% sure is coming out any second.

That’s what I was thinking. I’m sure a revision will arrive eventually but I doubt it’s shortly after Spider-Man 2 with the limited edition console.

They’ll get a bump in sales from that release and any other holiday games.

Then when things quieten down early next year likely launch a revision.

Exactly, the Spider-Man bundle will be with us the rest of the year even if they revert back to a plain white and a slim model will get released in the first third of next year probably to stoke some more sales.

Because of this product is why we have been seeing cost reductions on the PS5, to clear room for this not a slim.
