The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

When would you guys all agree it's ok to openly discuss (within spoiler tags) the events of the film on this thread, technically I could say sod it and start posting when I get back at about 3AM 1st June but reckon I should exercise some common sense and maybe wait until friday afternoon/evening.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?!?

7 tickets for £77.65 inclusive of 3D glasses at my local odeon, seen a load of 3D movies there and the picture has always been excellent.

5 hours and counting...

going to watch this in 3d tonight

never seen a movie in 3d before, what are the glasses like? Do i get to keep them? For £9odd I'd expect so.

Also I wear glasses, is this going to be a problem?

Only about £1 of the ticket goes towards the glasses. :)

You'll have no problem with your existing glasses, they'll fit over them.

Also what a fantastic movie to break your 3D cherry :D

Loved it, knew I would though, a solid 9/10 from me, gave me everything I wanted and so much more :D

Love the little nods to the other films, one bit that stands out...

David, we are leaving!

I think too many people went in wanting a pure Alien prequel, I didn't and for that I ended up loving everything about this movie.

The 3D was fantastic, it was subtle, not over the top or in your face, was there to add depth and it worked perfectly.

I recently saw a thread at AVPGalaxy which shows the mountain of bad reviews Alien originally got and now it's considered a classic. http://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/index.php?topic=43799.0

It's going to divide people a lot I think, there are too many expectations but if you go with an open mind and no preconceptions, you'll love it.

What's interesting for me is that out of our group of 7 who watched it, 3 of them absolutely despise 3D yet all of them said it was fantastic in this movie.

Personally I like 3D for depth and atmosphere, not just for objects flying out of the screen at you.

I wonder if this film would still be getting the same hate if it had just appeared out of the blue and everyone didn't have such massively high expectations for it.

I've been waiting for this for 3 years and for me, it delivered all I wanted, not everything was explained which is fine by me. RS has just done an interview to say if he did do anymore, it would be 2 more movies before we even get to 'Alien'.

Once again I reiterate - Ridley Scott: 4 good films out of 29. He's a good director who often gets poor writers. This is just another poorly written Ridley Scott film.

Down to personal opinion I guess, Scott has made more than 4 good movies.

Body Of Lies
Matchstick Men
Black Hawk Down
Hannibal
Gladiator
GI Jane
Black Rain
Blade Runner
Alien

I hesitate to add Legend :D

I'm not going to defend Prometheus, I don't need to, those who don't like it, fair enough, that's their opinion. I got what I wanted, i'm happy, the 3 year wait was worth it. :D

Just been to see this and it was amazing, what some people seem to see as plot holes are just their lack of understanding of the story.

Thankyou, i've yet to see a plot hole pointed out that doesn't have an explanation if you'd paid enough attention or was deliberately left ambiguous ;)

I think much of this was left unanswered as they are planning a few sequels, they just need to get rid of Lindelof for the next ones.

Really???

I'm not a big one for sitting and pointing out every hole in a film and try and enjoy them at face value for what they are, but I don't think it is as clear cut as you state.

Please bear in mind i've tracked this film from the first rumours and read virtually everything related to it so i've got a more rounded idea than most about what most of the things relate to in the movie.

I'm a true hardcore alien fan and I soaked up every moment of that movie and accepted as a welcome addition to the Alien universe :)

Hypocrite Scott, in this interview he admits cuts were made to get a lower rating, he says something along the lines of getting a lower rating grosses them about $80 million more.

A few weeks ago, Lindelof went on record to say not a single frame would be cut to achieve a softer rating.

You can see where some of the cuts are and some of the scenes don't flow so well, the good news is that we may have a directors cut coming for the BR release :D

What also doesn't make sense is that the Engineers did nothing in the 2000 years from their facility failing to the time when humans discovered the site.

That's 2000 years for them to either come up with Plan B or to at least rescue the survivors of the site or nuke it from orbit ;) Or, something, anything!

Instead the facility just sits there for 2000 years whilst, presumably, no one back at Engineer HQ can be bothered to do anything about it.

Perhaps they've been in cryo for that long, maybe the cryo was a last ditch attempt to outlive the plague/infection?!?

You're missing the point. There are other worlds with Engineers.

We only know what David said, that there is an Engineer homeworld and other installations on LV223, we don't know for sure that there are other engineer worlds, although it would be common sense.

Also who's to say these guys aren't a rogue military extremist faction bent on an engineer jihad ;)

Anyway, this should be in the spoiler thread, not here!
