**** The Official Prometheus Spoiler Discussion Thread ****

The people criticising are most likely disappointed fanboy because if you just view it as a normal film, it did ok.
Its only when you have delusions it could be better then alien it is so awful. I look forward to the sequel like I might a tv series, Im glad they are exploring the bigger story behind it all. I say that as someone who read all the alien comic book derivatives twenty years ago and so on.
No idea or realisation ever topped the original film but its still all good pulp fiction

nonsense - i went in with low expectations, but many parts failed to meet even them. its almost good - it has a lot of the ingredients but does so many things wrong, really basic things.

i can understand why some people might like it - but to suggest it was a well made/written film is simply wrong
read the link above, here it is again http://badassdigest.com/2012/06/17/f...-intervention/

gives a well balanced opinion on the problems with the writing.

And she was running, and fighting ... but this is just a minor thing in an ocean of bad, which clearly some people refuse to understand or acknowledge, and that is fine.

Anyhows, some more reviews: http://badassdigest.com/2012/06/17/film-crit-hulk-smash-the-damon-lindleof-intervention/

I like this a lot. Anyone who talks about semiotics and making lots of insane deductions in an attempt at turd polishing is a winner, in my eyes.

We shouldn't need to read or watch or listen to interviews to figure out why the film is so confusing and contrived, we really shouldn't have to have someone who was involved in the creation of the film come out and explain to us all the imagery he put it to it in order to justify the "mystery" surrounding it. If you can't do that from just watching the film itself then the entire verisimilitude of the film is compromised, and the creators have failed.

The film is so nonsensical in places that it beggars belief that there are those who are trying to explain away plot holes from information that is not actually present within the film.

So I finally got around to seeing this.

Good points:

  • Prometheus is the best Ridley Scott movie since Barry Lyndon, which was not a Ridley Scott movie but should have been
  • Plot was seamlessly woven into the fabric of the other Alien films (particularly the first one but you could see echoes of the other three as well); this was a very nice touch
  • Utterly gripping; how could we have guessed what was coming next? Astounding revelations at every turn!
  • Patrick Wilson totally carried the first half of this film; I am so pleased to see him getting solid roles again
  • Cliffhanger ending: will Shaw reach the Engineers' planet and save Earth from destruction? Not necessarily! Stay tuned!
  • Ideal duration; anything less than 2 hours would have been a waste
  • Superb characterisation; no need to guess motives or rationale
  • Plot was logical, believable, and easy to follow

Bad points:

  • Too many aliens; OK, I understand that they're on an alien planet in a facility created by aliens who probably created other aliens, but why so many aliens? I just don't understand the focus on aliens!
  • Michael Fassbender didn't look like an android; this was very unrealistic and spoiled the character for me
  • Far too much was explained; I wanted mystery and unanswered questions!
  • Kate Dickie was miscast in a role clearly written for Aitana Sánchez-Gijón
  • Visuals were poor

Overall, a big thumbs up. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

That's about as subtle as an axe to the back of the head, but given the nature of this thread I also have to consider the possibility that you may actually be serious :p.

MICHAEL FASSBENDER
Oh I get it, you’re an android like me, right?

CHARLIZE THERON
No, I’m human, my acting just makes me seem like a lifeless robot incapable of human emotion.

lols:p

Wat... It's one of the best looking movies in terms of cinematography / visual effects currently, maybe there was vaseline smeared on your 3D glasses.

I saw it in 2D (my local cinema didn't offer a 3D viewing). Having said that, I don't think 3D would have improved anything.

But it doesnt even work as a normal film. Its so retarded its insulting.

Great link - calls out all the MANY weaknesses of the script. I for one don't care whether it was a bad prequel to Alien. I care that it was a profoundly average film based on a weak script, with a stupid plot (much of it ad hoc plot devices) and phoned in acting. Even the direction wasn't up there with Scott's better work.

I'm all for everyone having their own opinion but....did we watch the same movie?

Characterisation was awful at best and Fassbender was the only good thing in it imo!

He didn't look like an android. He just looked like a guy pretending to be an android. How could I suspend belief under those circumstances?

I think Fassbender's android was better than both Ash and Bishop. He was very cold. I loved all the scenes with him before cryo wakeup of the crew.

Ash was the best android. He even looked like one, which made me wonder why the rest of the crew didn't pick up on it earlier.

Fassbender was better than Bishop, but neither of them were very believable.

that perfectly describes the film if you assume your entire post is sarcastic.

I think thats the whole point though, he's an android trying to be human but because he's one of the earlier models, he just comes across as quite mechanical in his mannerisms.
Ash and Bishop where much improved models and you werent supposed to be able to tell the difference. Ash just came across as cold and distant but Bishop was more amiable and eager to please.
