**** The Official Prometheus Spoiler Discussion Thread ****

Watched this in 3d last night and it was ok to be honest. I'm not totally 'into' Alien but I think I've saw them in the past.

The scottish woman did my nut in and I'd agree the a acting felt forced??

Wish we knew what David said to the engineer aswell.

I thought 3d worked quite well on the first DNA destroying scene and several other scenes. It was my first 3d movie though so I can't compare to other things.

I've seen it twice now.. I like it.. yes its not perfect, and there are holes and parts that are left open to interpretation, but its no-way as bad as some people think. You are always on a loosing side making a movie which is part of a large fan base series (think Phantom Menace and Indiana 4). I agree it needs a sequel to close out the storyline, or a directors cut with another 60 mins would be ideal.

Visually it was excellent.

As some others have said, movies have changed since the 70s and 80s, FX are a lot better and cheaper so are used a lot more often to the expense of character development.

I also watched Snow White and the Huntsman today and that sucked a$$.. yes its not getting the criticism Prometheus is.

I agree with the crew thing too FoxEye. Their supposedly going on the most important expedition of man kind and it just seems really rag-tag for a science vessel. I can understand in the original Alien film because thier just miners who pick up the signal.

There didn't seem like much chemistry between the crew in Prometheus. There was no breakfast after waking up, like there was in Alien. This was a real establishing scene for the crew and how we got to know them in such a short period of time.

When I came out with my girlfriend I asked her who was your favorite character? Pretty hard question I thought.

Well I'm happy I went to see the film. Shame it's been slated so hard on here. Bit of slating for the sake of it I think.

A decent film related to the Alien films. She recovers a bit quickly, no one makes any comment about the staples in her stomach. The ginger bloke was too aggressive. Why cast Guy Pearce as an old man. Why not cast someone older for the film and the teaser?

Other than that I a good effort. Hope there another.

And you'd be wrong.

Even if I'd never seen an Alien movie before, there are enough badly written scenes in this movie to come away disappointed.

It's been a few hours now since I watched it, and you know what I remember the most? The opening scene. That scene was well done. It set up the film nicely and I was thinking "ooh, curious, why did he do *that*?"

And now I've seen the film, I don't really care. I don't care about the sequel, I don't care if any of the questions are ever answered. Because the film itself was pretty bad.

Almost every line of dialogue was cringe-worthy. Character actions were almost completely random, and nothing that happened in the film seemed to affect them in any way.

Since this is the spoiler thread: She loses her boyfriend because the 'droid infects him, and after she finds out she doesn't care. She carries on working with the 'droid, and chats to him like they're best friends. Totally doesn't give a damn that he murdered her other half. No, sir.

They remind us oh-so-casually that she's still mourning in one scene near the end - she lies down and cries "oh noes I can't carry on". One of the worst bits of acting in the film. 10 seconds later the 'droid says "cheer up, I've got a plan, but I need your help". And she goes and helps him, instantly forgetting the fact that he killed her boyfriend.

Because she just doesn't care ;)

Come on, as far as the script and dialogue go you'd expect better from a talented amateur.

I wouldn't say i'm a massive Alien fan but I enjoy the series and understand/see why it is grreat. I went to see Prometheus to get my own opinions, not really aware of the hype except for a few people I know who were mega excited being Alien fans...

Well it was amazing for visuals, the 3D didn't annoy me, it was used well, depth! Other than that I don't think it was anything special.

Far too many things that are grating at my head, plot holes and unexplained things. Stuff already mentioned in this thread, so I won't bother.

One thing I did consider that I haven't seen mentioned in the thread yet is I think the 'Engineer' at the start of the film is different to the Engineers on the planet... Maybe he was their creator? It might make sense with regards to there being a massive head in the tomb, maybe that was of their creator?

Of course I may be way off the mark, I know nothing of the Alien mythology except casual viewing of the films..

Don't get the actual alien though, each time there was some creature I expected it to be related to the Aliens in a more obvious way than it being a long assed process before we saw anything really recognisable as an 'Alien' 5 steps? Can anyone explain this?
:)
David

It was a B movie.

It sure was not filmed as a b movie. The score, the filming, the sets, the script well done and stand out today.

Yes it scream out b movie at the time due to it sounding like a dodgy horror but it was made as an A and shows.

David VI might be right about the first engineer and the rest of them being different in some way. It could make sense. Unfortunately I think it's unlikely because the characters kept referring to them being the creator and then wanting to kill humans.

But it would make a kind of sense and tie in with the question about "who makes the maker?".

Maybe the first engineer did seed Earth and at the same time LV-223 was being seeded (and other planets?) Humans evolved into a relatively benign form but the LV-233 creatures evolved into something far more agressive, realised that there would be other seeded lifeforms out there and used the same genetic engineering to create biological weapons with the intention of using them on those other planets.

I think it's unlikely though. The most frustrating part of the film for me was following the abortion scene when it simply wasn't mentioned again by anyone. Surely someone would have said something about it? That really put a downer on the film for me as the scene itself was quite tense.

Right at the start of the film, the engineer drank the potion. This killed him, dissolving his DNA into the river which I assume was the begninning of fauna life on earth. Not just human life?

The tomb: - Those snake things that bit the stupid scientist guy and then turned him into the hulk - were they possibly predator birthers? It seems they were totally different to what impregnated Ripley.

This would be why the engineer was fairly ****ed about being woken up? And wanting to destroy earth, to stop the predator infection going back there?
