The official Ps3 thread

Are you trying to whip up another one of those debate that you are well known for?

No that was humour...

Who needs a debate, its not worth it, im just glad links like that above confirm things ive said in the past which some have criticised here as me being anti Sony, i just dont get sucked into all the hype.

Seems ive been actually not far from the truth even though some find such things hard to swallow.

OMG i just love it when im right, PS3 price not a problem eh? knew full well this wouldnt take long in happening but surprised if its going to be offical so soon......

"PS3 sales in Japan have aparently frozen gets 20% discounted by retailers.
No mention yet of an offical price drop or comment from Sony..."

The thing is if Sony know it isnt selling well enough even in their home land why the hell are they still for launching in Europe/UK with the highest price point of all. B******S
Not a chance im buying now at launch to have it discounted within a few months with no compensation. Are original purchasers going to be compensated at all? Gees at least with the Xbox price cut buyers were given 3 games compensation.

Awaits confirmation of the situation and any compensation from Sony

Do you have a source for this. Great news if true because it may force Sony to re-think their pricing strategy.

Hmm, I'm not sure Sony will officially drop the price, but we can only hope.

These price cuts are only in an effort to shift excess stock which effectively means the retailer won't make any profit from units themselves. They will sell them at this discounted price and make some profit from the games/blu ray movies. Better than having loads sitting on shelves, which is pretty dead money.

A price cut would be more than welcome and really if the machine was £300-£350 in UK it would help a lot. If not then at least a bundle of Blu Ray movies and one or two games thrown in.

Reports on USA stores and stock...
"New Study: PS3 in stock at 58 percent of retailers, Wii just 3 percent
A new and recent research study has found that out of checks on ONE HUNDRED and FIFTY retailers, 58% of those checked had the PS3 in stock while only 3% had the Wii available. The Xbox 360's shortage continued well into January, and the Wii is following on the same lines. What's going on with the PS3? Is it on a fast track to failure OR are people just waiting to justify the high price tag with some killer titles? "

Surely the Americans and Japenese are as tech savvy to us Brits if not more, so anyone who disagrees with the idea that Sony hasnt a growing problem marketing this machine currently as it stands needs to look closer at the already released markets, should we expect Europe or UK to be any different?

No, the European market will be the same unless there are a few AAA titles released at launch or Sony decide to drop the price across the board. I hope it's the latter because as it's too expensive as a games machine.

Ive been saying for ages that you can walk into any electrical store here and get a ps3, they aint selling at all. But all the "zomg so why is it selling for $3bazillion on the bay if it's readily available in shops!!!1? me call shens!" comments come out :o

I wanted the ps3 to rock but sony did such a **** poor job or launching it because they thought "hey, were Sony, we can do what we want and the sheep will buy it!" err..WRONG!

The consoles arent selling because of 2 points.

1. Price
2. Lack of must have games.

--

For me both points are keeping me from buying the console, But point 2 has priority over the 1st. If there were more good games on the market for the PS3 then price wouldnt be an issue.

Supposedly the PS3 will launch in Europe on the 23rd of March with a £425 price tag, according to a source who told edge magazine but nothing has been confirmed yet.

prehaps they will do a xbox on us and 3 months after launch they will drop the price by £100 and refund with games, ect all those that paid the launch price, or maybe they won't, time will tell, but atm it does seem no-one is interested at the price it currently stands at after the hardcore Sony fans/lovers buy their units.

The Microsoft Xbox 360 currently provides the richest overall gaming and media experience thanks largely to a robust platform and having a year launch lead. The Nintendo Wii provides the best individual, aerobic, gaming experience and will likely be the most popular with parents (and wives) as a result. The Sony PS3 simply doesn't feel finished, but, given the ability to download updates many of these shortcomings should be addressed next year. Once that happens the Sony should be able to better go toe to toe with the other players, for now the market (at least for the new generation of gaming systems) appears to belong to Microsoft at the high end and Nintendo at the low end.

If I were buying a system for myself or for someone into High Definition programming, I'd favor the Xbox, as a gift for kids I'd favor the Nintendo (assuming I could find it) and, with the Sony, I'd stick with the PSP (arguably the best portable player and both more affordable and more available this year) until the PS3 matures a little more and drops out of the Ebay nose bleed pricing phase.

I like that, It shows all 3 consoles for what they are. And confirms what most have been saying.

Xbox 360 is leading the market for high end consoles, as it's had a year long head start on PS3.

Nintendo has the lower market cornered.

And PS3 is looking to have an uphill struggle, Which can be fixed by lowering the price. Only problem with that? Sony are selling the console at a loss to begin with! So the Sony Playstation devision would really feel the hurt if they had to cut costs. :(

It does annoy me that the UK price is so much more than the rest of the world tho. I cant find any reasoning behind it.

Been saying it for ages, NO company has launched 3 home consoles and had 3 #1 systems. Id say the 360 is gonna end up winning out this time around, seems for once people havn't bought into sonys hype (99.9% of which is nothing but utter crap and marketing spin).

Sorry fanboys but i hope this is plenty of negativity for you today, should make up for the recent quiet period.
That's much better thanks :) I feel content again now that I've had another feast on the bad Sony vibes from this forum.

Maybe Sony will be looking to cancel the whole project after all??? :p

SCEA boss Jack Tretton has warned that it will be hard to cut the cost of PS3 as the machine is so expensive to make - but according to reports, some Japanese retailers have already slashed 20 per cent off the RRP.

When asked in an interview with US magazine Game Informer whether PS3 price cuts be "as soon or as drastic" as they were for PS2 Tretton replied, "No... There's a heck of a lot more under the hood and it costs us more money to make it."

But although he conceded it will be "a lot more difficult to cost reduce" PS3, Tretton said that consumers will still be willing to pay the asking price.

"I think the consumers that get their hands on a PlayStation 3 clearly see the value and not only want to buy one for $599, in some instances they're willing to pay ridiculous prices to buy one on eBay," he concluded.

However, reports suggest that demand for the hardware is already slowing in Japan. According to Media Create figures the PS3 suffered its worst sales week so far earlier this month, and now there are claims that some retailers are drastically cutting the price of PlayStation 3.

As reported on Akibablog.net and partially translated by Kotaku, some shops are said to be reducing the price for the 20GB model from YEN 49,980 (EUR 315) to YEN 39,980 (EUR 253) - a drop of 20 per cent.

But market watchers PS3 wasn't the only console to experience a post-Christmas sales slump - Media Create's figures revealed that the numbers for Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 were also down during the same period.

Do you get a kick out of this or something else?

Not a kick as such but their is an element of satisfaction when things i and others have mentioned in previous threads to an exhausted extent seem to now be spot on.

Price / Blu Ray not yet really a must have / Lack of AAA Titles /
The console isnt really anymore powerfull regardless what Sony say.

But no no Sonys brand strength and past sales record will save it, nothing to worry about at all, honestly....
Said ages ago Sonys management is the problem, their completely off the ball and have become the biggest pile of BStters in the gaming scene. Heads need to role at the firm.
