The official Ps3 thread

Well Firmware 1.6 is out and here is the features

The PLAYSTATION®3 system software version 1.60 update includes the following:

Featured Content
Folding@home connectivity, background downloading of content from the PLAYSTATION®Store, support for Bluetooth® keyboards and mice, and an optional full QWERTY on-screen keyboard for text entry.
Folding@home

The Folding@home project allows PS3 owners to connect to Stanford University’s Folding@home program, a distributed computing project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and many cancers. Using the power of the Cell Broadband Engine™, PS3 system can perform computer simulations for the Folding@home program ten times faster than your average home PC. Once PS3 system is updated to version 1.60, users can easily sign up to join the Folding@home program by clicking on the appropriate logo on the XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) under the Network icon. Then, when the PS3 system is left on and reaches idle mode, it will automatically begin a simulation and, once completed, send information back to a central computer. Additional details about Folding@home are available at http://www.scei.co.jp/folding/en/.
Enhanced Downloading

Firmware Version 1.60 also delivers a more convenient process for downloading content to the PS3 from the PLAYSTATION Store. Up to 6 pieces of content from the PlayStation store can be queued up for download while the user enjoys other functions of the PS3 system, including playing games, browsing the web, using media functions including photo browsing, video and music playback. Progress of downloads can be easily tracked under a new Download Management menu under the XMB’s Network icon.
Remote Play by way of the access point

This feature, enabling you to access photos, videos, andmusic on your PS3 system's hard drive from a nearby PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), will be available for the 20GB configuration, when utilizing an external Wi-Fi router or local wireless access point.
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse support / Full size keyboard

Support for keyboards and mice enabled with Bluetooth wireless technology has been added. Text entry is further expanded with the option to use a full QWERTY on-screen keyboard, in addition to the existing single tap keyboard. PS3’s built-in Web browser is also enhanced with the ability to zoom in to the optimal viewing size for the selected area of a Web page at the press of a button, as well as an optional tool for reducing flicker when the PS3 system is using interlaced video out (480i or 1080i).
Disc Auto-Start

This new option under System Settings allows you to choose whether or not a disc should start automatically upon inserting the disc or turning on your PS3 system.
Blu-ray Disc Rewriteable (BD-RE) Support

PS3 system can now playback BD-RE discs (version 3.0).

Of note, Bluetooth kb/m support :D guess i'll be getting a new keyboard for my PC then :D

Also apparently the folding client has a funky globe you can pan around with

Yeah? What's happened? I was waiting to see his TV/PS3 setup on another thread :(

I have a projector, and a stereo system, I plug the hdmi lead into the projector and then use 2 phono leads left and right into the stereo and then the other into the ps3, my projector is 720p but I can switch to 1080p and im sure it looks better at that res.

Anyone know when we will be able to download the 1.6 update? I want to get it downloaded on my PC then transfer across thought it save some time. Seems some of the people on gamespot already have it. On the PS3 update for the US it only lists 1.54

Cool. I've got a Sony VPL-VW11HT that's had all of 20 minutes use in over 4 years. Time to get it back out of the box me-thinks :D

I was trying to download it on my PC, still says 1.54 link http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/network/updates
on the site may have to wait till this afternoon and have a look then. Maybe downloading from a registered PS3 is done first then after a while it is released for PC download?

The site always takes a while to get updated to the latest firmware. iirc it usually takes about a day.
I am gonna stick mines on to d/l at lunch, it's only 100 meg but wanna try get it before all of america wakes up.

Cheers probably a bit to over eager to get it all going got my new HDD and linux all i need now is the PS3 :D

Just downloaded firmware 1.6. Only took 15 minutes for 100 odd meg.

Once you d/l the firmware under the network the folding tab is there, you then need to download another app of about 50Meg, which is the folding client. I am doing that just now too :D

Dunno if i should use my old folding name which is on the Custom PC team or just do a new one.

Ohhh the PS3 makes a noise!! lol when folding i can actually hear my fan, very feintly
