***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

So going by these G0 Retail Chip O/C Results would people think that this G0 Stepping is making much/any difference to non suicidal overclocks??
Or have intel pulled a bit of a fast one by getting people to part with their cash a tad too easily in the belief that they would see massive performance leaps with this stepping.
To me even the 3ghz overclocks on these quads seem to yeild a very high temperature which personally speaking I don't think I would be comfortable running 24/7, also bear in mind most of these G0 overclocks are achieved with the latest and greatest motherboards.
Seems to me a lot of people are trying to justify their decision to move to G0 Quads ... personally I aint impressed.

the G0 I have in my possession seems to be very impressive.

The cores are cooler when all 4 are priming than my early E6700 was when only 2 cores were going.

Thats on a water loop with just the cpu in on a 120.1

been going 2 hours now and max temp is 57.

also managed to get 800mhz out of it with no increase in vcore.

Nice to hear.

These quads will certainly see us all through until penryn :)

QX6700 ES @ 3.6ghz 1.53vcore - 12hr p95 stable

Failed prime after 7hrs with 1.45 so upped it to 1.53 to be sure. Passed now so I can lower the vcore back down a little and test again. Not bad vdroop either - 0.032. Vdrop however is worse than the dual cores - 0.075

Not a G0 nor a 6600 but hey for the price I paid I can't complain - not bad for a B3 chip (L632A865) :D

I've now got mine 9 hours prime stable at 3.2ghz, 400x8 @ ~1.42v, with a peak temperature of 71c - still a tad high, but a better proposition for normal usage.

Thats with memory @ 400mhz, 1:1 divider. Next task is to try it at 500mhz :)

Just got my G0 this out morning....and so far its looking OK. Booted straight in at 3.2Ghz with 1.3v. Been running Prime for 20 minutes so far and full load temps are hitting 50C (highest core):D

One thing thats wierd...Ive set the board BIOS at 8x400 and when I boot into Widows and view CPUZ..its showing it as 6x400...then it chnages to 8x400...sortof like the multiplier is fluctuating. When running Prime its reports what is should be and doesnt seem to be fluctuating back to a multi of 6. Any ideas????

Any other programs good at reading Bus speed..multi's etc. other than CPUz.

Speedstep is lowering the multiplier to save power at idle. You can disable it in BIOS if you wish to.

And CPU-Z is the best there is.

Sounds like speedstep is enabled.

Its EIST..and using a p35-DS3p. It was disabled...but obviously the BIOS has rest all the settings to defaults when ive put in the new CPU.

Cheers

So thats not stable then? :p

Can you get it 3.8ghz stable?

My old QX6700 did 3.6ghz @ 1.375v but could not get any higher with any vcore stable due to temps. :(

Have you included a P95 screenshot here? Might be usefull for comparison.

Temps aint the problem with this cpu, lapped it and temps dont go above 60 now - overclocking with 4gb of ram is however more of a challenge;).

My aim was to get 3.6 stable with reasonable temps and 1000mhz on the ram. Done that and now I'm happy. 3.7 is the next goal but I'm too busy atm exploring vista64. Tis a lot nicer to use with a quad and 4gb of ram compared to a 4ghz e6600 and 2gb. :D

My SLACR G0 is currently at 3600mhz 400x9 at 1.43v temps are 43 39 37 37 idle at the moment although whats a safe max temp?

MM#891337 <-- I R L337 :P
FPO#L720B013

I'm pretty sure it will go higher as im on water.

Whats the best way to stress this beast?
