***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

I'm running mine at 3.45 at the moment but thats 430 x 8 to keep the memory running quite quickly. I've seen and experienced quite a few problems operating in the high 300s on recent asus boards (P5B and now P5K) for example my new P5K wouldn't entertain 380 x 9 but its happy with 430 x 8.

What kind of vcore am I going to be looking at to hit 3.6Ghz on a G0?

Maxes out at 50 degrees doing Prime blend test and 60 doing the CPU stressing one (which ones best in your opinions?) at 3.4Ghz with a vcore of 1.375 (droops to 1.312-1.328)

Air cooling, coldish room :D

Got my p35 dq6, corsair quad and g0 today, tried to overclock and after i exit the bios (saving ofc) it resets the overclock settings back to auto defaults (200x9)

everything is set to manual, speedstep is disabled and yet it keeps doing this......:(

Board seems to be much more fussy than the p5k del but seems to run much cooler even without crazy crap. :D

Seems the bios just needed a hard reset

Anywho, straight in at 3ghz (333x9) at stock volts on the stock cooler.

Currently ~10 mins into prime: 51,51,57,57c temps on quad prime on vista x64 :)

after a **** up my G0 comes tomo.

Hoping for 3.6ghz and 3.8ghz if im lucky:)

I just sold my B3, don't ask me why, because it was a superb chip. I guess I got the G0 bug. Got 3 arriving tomorrow for myself and mates.

Wife went Nuts when I told her, I'd sold it, but I told her it was Easyriders fault, that he told me to buy a G0.

I've got a feeling, with my luck, it won't be as good as this B3.

Well my G0 stepping is coming tommorrow and it is going in my eVGA 680i A1 revision.

How has everyone else got on with this combination?

From another thread, only just started looking at mine. Short of time at the moment...

Struggling with all the options at the moment, "Crikey" is a polite way of repeating what I said when I first hit the bios voltage screen! uGuru is quite handy though as I can play with pretty much everything apart from the memory timings.

Still not too sure exactly what CPU VTT does... Currently running a quick prime test at 3.6Ghz, vcore is showing 1.42v under load in windows (1.5275 in BIOS), temps at 59/59/58/58. Settings basically as follows, bit of a stab in the dark at the moment. After 10mins PWM hits 82deg!!! Any tips?!! :)

I've stuck an 80mm fan in the vicinity of what I'm guessing is the PWM area but it still hit 80deg... So I dug out an old Vantec Tornado 92mm fan that I've had lying about for ages, that didn't do too much either. Then I realised the fan controller was set to low so whacked it up to full... I forgot how loud these fans were!!!! Took nigh on 30deg off the temp though, now down to 52deg... :o Think I'm going to have to come up with a quieter solution though ;)

Settings I'm using at the moment as I managed to miss them off the above...

For info it's also running with 4GB Ballistix 5300 and Vista 64bit...

Sorting out wedding invitations takes precedent at the moment ;) Off to Belfast tomorrow and then over the weekend its off on the stag do, so I wouldn't hold your breath!

I'm still around the 400 x 9 point, just doing a long stability test of 380 x 9, its needed an indicated 1.5v in the bios (actual 1.46 according to cpu-z) and it seems happy but we're reaching the limit of my cooling as I'm on a PA120.1 rad at the moment, we're at 68/68/62/62 which is about as far as I'm happy to take it.

Thats on a P5K mobo.

Its funny actually, mine seems to be happy going to 3.2ghz with very little voltage increase but I seem to be working hard for anything much above that, lets see what a PA120.3 does for it.

Just passed 2 hours on prime, still going nicely. :)

Going to push to 3.6-8 and leave it overnight after 3 hours, I might have to bump it up to 1.28-9v though.

What is too hot for these CPU's

Just runnng prime on my new rig (GO) 449 x 8 so 3.6 Ghz, temps currently sitting at 63.

Rig consists of:-

Intel Core 2 Quad LGA775 Q6600 GO SLACR 2.40GHz Retail / Abit IP35 Pro / 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500C5

I'm currently running memory 1:1 400Mhz which is probably conservative, any tips.

Tuniq Tower 120 Cooler in Antec 900 Gaming case, indicated volts are 1.304 in CPU-z (is that too much voltage).

Core 1 and Core 3 seem to be running 6/7 degrees cooler than Core0 and Core 2, should I refit the HSF?

<edit> after looking at Gibbo's posts I've dropped the volts way down to 1.28v (CPU-z) <edit>

Everything is currently running silent and temps are 55 under load.

Cheers
