my cpu > your cpu monster

:p

Ive got mine running at 3.9ghz 24/7
If I have my window a TINY bit open the idle temps are 25c and load temps get to 50c.

If I have the window closed then idle temps are around 35c and load is 60c.

Either way, I have a warm room and a 3.9ghz CPU :D

Okay... I see your CPU & raise you:

My Attempt at 4GHz

A quick go at 4GHz. I will try again later when I have more time to identify the issue. This setup lasted for another few minutes after the screenie was taken before P95 errored ... it was otherwise stable doing windows stuff & numerous 3dmark06 (Got to 14750) runs and about 20 mins of crysis!!

My rig has a very hard time at 450x8 with this quad so it may well be issues to with the FSB or RAM as much as the CPU but I will work on that! Btw, CPU-Z crashes on my rig no matter what the settings - even at stock settings  I fire it up and it'll lock the PC after about 30 seconds ... every time guarranteed!

Hey guys, i love my quad!
I just went into my BIOS(asus p5k-e) and put the FSB from 266 to 320 and now running like a dream at 3.0Ghz. My 3dMark06 score improved by 1000 marks!
I will see if i can stretch out another few ghz.

Depends on the asus mobo. My temps are good. Never go over 33c on 4 cores at 3Ghz. That was with the heating on in my house. Just let me move my system upstairs with no heating and open my windows and expose my system to -6c temps and 90mph winds.......................

Living in Scotland has it's advantages.

^ idle at 41ish. looking through temp log, crysis gets it just below 70'c. its at 46 now with one instance of folding@home 28% cpu usage. prime put up to mid 70's

get that and you ll be grand. depending on ram speed youll be able to 3200 easily. with stock cooler@3200 the temps just get to hot when priming :(

Really would have to be very cost effective.
It depends whether you put a value on your time and effort getting the heatsink working well, I wasted days tinkering with the ACF7-Pro trying to get good cooling results.

I would recommend either the Thermalright Ultima-90i/Ultra-120A, you just missed the Ultra-120 eXtreme on offer for £31 but still the regular TRU is a very nice heatsink, there are other quality heatsinks as well but I tend to stick with what I know. . .

I'm all for saving money where possible but every overclocker should be throwing a few extra quid in buying a premium cooler, it really is worth the extra! :)

Hello all,

Just a quick question.....

When using Prime 95 on all 4 cores, do you use a custom torture ? if so what amount of memory do you use for each instance and how large do you set the TFT's ?

currently i've been using 8k - 4096k for the TFT's and 300mb per instance.

Nogs

Currently running:

Q6600 Go @ 3.6Ghz on 1.385 Vcore (Bios) Idle is 45c (Fan at 30%) Full load 65c (Fan at 100%)
Lapped TRUE with Artic Cooling 120mm 4pin
Abit IP35 Pro
Balistix Tracer 8500
8800GT OC

Looks like I'm sticking at 3.6ghz until I get a new PSU :(

Idle @ 20-25c
Prime @ 35-40c

Would love to push the CPU back upto 4ghz but I think my PSU might go pop if I do that and I'm too skint to get a new Corsair :(
