***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

well the sooner people realise that sustained low load temps are down to two factors the better :)

no point having the dogs nads of a CPU cooler if all its doing is sucking in hot air.. you need to have decent airflow in the case to ensure that the ambient case temp stays the same

if I turn my case fans off and run a prime in 15 mins the ambient temps in the case will rise over 10c

tbh I have no idea!

a lot of boards will have a default sensor on the motherboard that will read a temp.. would check your manual should tell you where the temp sensors are

Its pretty easy to tell if you have enough case airflow.. run a prime for 15/20 mins note your case and load temps.. then take the side of the case off and see what the temp has done 15/20mins later.. if you have significantly droped temps you have an airflow issue

Just upgraded my old X2 3800+ to the rig in my sig. Using the AF7 with the Antec 900 Case and getting just under 60C for all 4 cores full load whilst running Prime95 small FFTs.

Nothing wrong with the AF7 if it's seated properly and you have a case with good airflow. ;)

Been following this thread for a while now. Yesterday I built my new system (see sig). Only finsished building it very late on last night, so not installed anything yet. The only thing I did, was boot it up and it posted first time so thats pleasing. Anyway my target is to try and get my Q6600 Go to 3.2 Ghz with the AC7 pro. I used the "blob" method with some MX-2 compound. Being a total novice when it comes to overclocking, I am relying on the knowlage I have picked up by reading through threads like this. I will be installing windows and all my other stuff on Saturday (very busy before then) and I really hope I can reach 3.2Ghz with the AC7 pro. :)

My new case is the Akasa Mirage 62 with 2x120mm Sharkoon 2000 fans, so I think I have great case cooling already, so that will help.

Hear is my contribution, not going to post in the Quadcore database until i take it to 3.6GHz stable. but i think this is my everyday overclock.

Temps don't go above 61C in small FFT

picy

rig is

[email protected]
ArmorLCS case
Corsair HX620
Asus P5K-E WiFi bios 503
Corsair 4GB DDR2 DHX 2X2GB
WD Raptor 74GBX2 Raid0
Seagate Barracuda 500GBX2
GeForce8800 GTS 512Mb

settings are:

378X9=3402MHz
1.392Vcore
VID 1.3125 in CPUz

8hr+ small FFT stable
8hr+ Bend stable

EDIT: fixed link (i think)...

Sepulchre, I removed the paste that came with the AC7 because there was too much of it applied. I know lots of people gain excellent results by doing this. So I got some MX-2 and used the rice size blob method without spreading, letting the weight on the AC7 spread it naturaly. As soon as I get round to it I will post my results. :)

Look forward to seeing how you get on :)

If your temps are too high though it may be worth trying applying the TIM as per the instructions on AS's site for quad cores as this is supposed to give better temps as the 2 dual cores which make up the quad do not sit directly under the centre of the IHS.

What cooler is that with crazy?

its with the standard water kit that comes with the thermaltake Armor LCS case.

it worked our the same price to get that case with the LCD system as it did to get a Antec Nine Hundred with a 3rd party cooler.

everybody says it suck, but i don't think its that bad, got it up to 3.6GHz at about 68C but i don't want to do that. so i think i will leave it where it is.

might do an 8HR stint at 3.7 ish for the quadcore database

EDIT: i also used the arctic silver 5 line method

As far as good watercooling goes buddy it probably does, on par with air no doubt.

i know it is low end water and probably on a par with good air but for the same price it looks soooo good, i also wanted to give water a try, and now i want to upgrade.

the temps do skyrocket with two more notches of Vcore so i do need some better cooling. I also have a 10C difference on my core temps, so i know i need to lap my CPU soon, and the water block was bad.

just a bit excited with my new build so i dint bother.

Glad you’re having fun, don’t get me wrong, if it was a cheap solution and it helps you get you head around watercooling then all the better for it.
Just don’t be afraid to continue upgrading your loop :)

big upgrade is coming, just when my last is payed for off my credit card, im thinking off a Alphacool NexXxoS Xtreme lll Rev2 Triple Radiator or a Thermochill PA120.3, i have the room for it
