**The Official Returnal Thread**

I often wonder how difficult it would be for these games to offer a first person experience of the same game. would it work?

3rd person seems to make sense on a controller, so the obvious choice on a PS5 game, but there are plenty of people who play first person shooters on controller too.

3rd person on mouse and keyboard seems weird, though i admit i haven't given it a lot of time. i find first person more immersive, and i'm not trying to "look around" the player all the time.

Looks like a good game.

I dont really have much room for keyboard and mouse gaming but find that most games on PC you can use a controller anyway.

Skyrim offers 1st and 3rd person experience and I find the 3rd person really stinks. I leave it in 1st person full time.

Must say, really enjoying this so far !
Yeah! It's got a great creepy vibe to it - kinda like Prometheus (only good) - played it for around 2.5 hours so far and only died twice but uncovered a whole bunch of weird stuff. Runs very well too aside from some occasional minor stutter (nothing game-breaking though). The particle system is amazing - reminds me of Control's fluid dynamics for the smoke.

I've been excited about this ever since one of the gameplay trailers dropped for PS5, always hoping it would arrive on PC after they accidently left the 'coming to PC' line at the end of a few of the trailers in one of the Sony live events.

Worth the wait it would seem, visuals are excellent, audio is great, atmosphere is on point. I'm not on mouse and keyboard at the moment but it still feels very good on the controller. Performance feels good, there is some stutter, presumably some shader compilation and levels loading in behind the scene, but it seems to be the more manageable, minimal kind of stutter that disappears and doesn't seem repeatable. Options menus look great, lots of audio and visual settings that apply instantly with in game preview in the background.

A few hours in and have got through the first area/zone on the second life (loads left to explore), promptly engaged something head on I shouldn't' have in the second area and died very quickly. Seems like it's going to be blast.

Aiming is always an issue with controller, you aim a lot in this.

I think m+kb would make this game overly easy.

The problem on controller is this game requires pretty precise movement and aim with the difficulty level.

I've got it downloading now so going to give it a blast on lunch, KB + M.

Didn't have any trouble aiming with the controller but I guess it's a matter of preference and what you're used to.

I don't think I'd ever want to play this on KB+M as the movement is just as crucial as aiming and there's not enough aiming precision required to really warrant slouching over my desk with kb+m.

Movement itself is more precise on controllers, aiming is not but it's very manageable and fun especially that Dualsense gives you some amazing haptic feedback in this, something you won't get on kb+m.

I'm usually 99% for controllers with anything 3rd person but with the 45-60 minutes I played last night as a test, I already feel 10x more comfortable jumping and dashing with the keyboard layout. Being able to 100% track enemies at the same time is just the icing on the cake. When I played on the PS5 I couldn't comfortable do both at the exact same time. It always felt really awkward to stay on target.

One of my favourite games of all time. Been playing games since the Oric Atmos so it had to be good :p. Came close to giving up a few times but you just have to push through that and then it starts to click. The fluid game mechanics, great graphics and sound make for a great experience. All that and a story that's a bit weird but kept me engaged till the end puts it on my stranded on a desert island list.

Tried it out, meh doesn't seem like my sort of thing but the benchmark is one of the most comprehensive screens since Shadow of the Tomb Raider so props to that.

Although... If you are on Windows 11 22H2 then the benchmark results are completely void because the game does not use the correct method to get CPU usage. Apps like RTSS fixed this a while back and Nvidia did more recently with the GFE overlay stats. Seems Epic did not consider this and as a result, CPU usage is just not accurate as you can see:

With Epic settings and all RT on and DLSS Quality. Had to replace the DLSS dll as it uses version 2.4.1.

True. Uncharted is more down your alley. Nice and easy going no challenge gaming :p:D;)
