When you do a trade in with Samsung, do you just send the device, eg phone or smartwatch or do you have to send the box & all the cables n charger?

Just the phone you don't even have to use the original box ..they send you a letter few days after you get your new phone with a return plastic parcel bag the within 5 days I got an email confirming trade is all good.

Its freepost bag but they advise to pay for recorded delivery £7 ish I paid for up to £500 on S7E

The only thing interesting me about this phone vs. the Note 8 is the battery life. The internal storage doesn't interest me when you can stick a huge SD card in the Note 8 anyway. So it basically comes down to if I want to pay £324 for a bigger battery.

Whilst I'm tempted on some level as the Note 8's battery is insufficient, I think I'll bank it for the Note 10, which I'm hoping should have a 4k screen and under-screen fingerprint reader.

The battery life won't be any better. I've iterated this on XDA. With the new S-Pen having a super cap on board that requires boosts of current throughout the day you've only got to deplete it 3-4 times before you've used the extra 700mA the Note 9 battery has.

The Note 9 has a bigger battery for the BLE S-Pen, that's it, if you use the new BLE stuff, you'll see no difference in battery life and if you don't use the BLE stuff, well, then why bother upgrading at all? It's a very minor update from a Note 8.

I've selected a trade-in at CPW but when I go to basket there's no mention of the trade in, just the full price for the phone.

Edit: will pop in to the store tomorrow and check it out.

IFAIK you get the trade in value when you return the old phone
.
There was nothing mentioned when I placed my order, but from what I've read you either post your old phone back to them or can return in store depending on how you;ve chosen to have you note 9 delivered.
As the local store is only 2 mins from where I work, I'm collecting in store so assume I will have to return my note 8 to the store within the allotted time frame to claim my trade in value of £575.

You expect people to be taking remote pictures with the s pen all day?

If you're not then you're essentially spending £850+ for 0.1" more display.....Value for money right there!

My screen on time isn't often 2 hours, let alone stylus use.

Try a reflash using ODIN then before plunging for a very minimal update.

Every time my battery gets bad or the phone starts doing odd things, I clear the cache, do a factory format and re-flash the latest firmware. Always fixes any battery life issues.

So your saying that BLE S pen will use all of that extra 700 mAh .. hmmmm

Maybe not 700mA no, but it'll take a fair chunk of essentially, the only reason people are throwing money at this thing.

It'll take nanoamps while not doing anything but the BLE radio side of things alone saps around 40mA when in use, let alone the rest of the transmissions it'll be doing in the background, then you've got the phones side of things, extra services running to handle it etc...It'll all add up pretty quickly.

I guess we'll see when you get yours and post your battery results. I know what I'm putting my money on though :)

You can just turn off the BLE part of the S-Pen then,

Then you're paying a grand for a slightly bigger battery and 0.1" bigger screen, very little else...

IMO, anyone who has a Note 8 and is upgrading to a Note 9 is just doing so for willy waving rights, or has money burning a hole, there is next to nothing that justifies it in terms of hardware/software wise.

Each to their own though!
