***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

The S3 sounding to be me a bit like a poor follow up to the S2. It may just be me but I don't see the need for some super resolution screen. While I can see the point of a quad core in something like the Motorola Atrix or Asus Padfone it seem complete over kill in a phone. Overall I would be more interested if they announced a minor increase in CPU speed and screen resolution but it had 3 day battery life and a better aerials.

The leaked specs might be the S2 Plus device ;)

Edit your post? Perhaps with "The date for the SGS3 announcement is unknown, I originally posted the date for the SGS2 ICS update as announced on Samsung Israel's facebook page.

I have to say that I really am struggling to see the benefit of such high res on such a small screen. I love progress and love the fact that they are getting better, but there doesn't seem to be that much benefit for it other than when you output to a TV for example. (oh and making the specs look better).

I doubt it makes the text that much easier to read given that it will be tiny anyway.

For web browsing I can imagine using a 720p with Chrome would be beyond awesome. I can already read most of OcUK without zooming in on my S II! Then there's the various apps that can fit more info on the screen, which is also win win.

Em3bbs on here claims that having a replaceable battery means that battery life doesn't matter.

I've seen it mentioned many times at various places though, and it's normally used as a get-out clause as the iPhone battery life tends to be better.

It's just something I've observed. :p

Why's that a get out clause? It is pretty handy to have a spare battery in case it runs out. It's not like a spare battery is hefty, and I'd rather be able to swap out a failing battery than have to send it for repair if it fails/fades over time.

I'm pretty sure the iPhone battery life isn't better anyway, especially when you can get the extended battery for the S II. Both platforms and users with both of these phones suffer from their various battery related issues.

In my experience it is. Pretty clearly.

It's nice to be able to swap the battery but I've only ever seen it mentioned on here and XDA whenever someone brings up the iPhone battery being better, hence my earlier comment. :)

There have been a lot of battery issues with the 4S though (it's still not clear what causes it).

Edit: However, I have noticed the battery has improved quite a bit on my Galaxy S 2 since I put the official ICS Samsung ROM on today. Which is nice.

That may the case. Personally, my S II without the extended battery and without ICS were better than any of my iPhone friends tbh. I always see iPhone users disabling stuff and exiting out of their precious apps. But that's just my experience at university.

So horses for courses or something ? :)

I'm going on my own experience, not what my friends bodged phones are like. :p

That way I know all of the possible variables. Ultimately it wouldn't really influence a decision either way as the S2 battery life is very good.

They love their phones more than you. Anyway I'm hoping they release the S III during the Summer because with ICS and the extended battery, the S II awesome. Most S II users would be happy that way with upgrades.

Ditto here, my SGS II was a champ in terms of battery once id got a custom ROM on it that did away with all the unecessary crap. Even better once Green Power was installed.

My gf has a iP4S and it really is appallingly bad... it lost 30% in standby overnight. Clearly has some big issues with software.
