***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

The thing is, there are only so many things you can do on a phone that require the silly amounts of power we're now able to produce.

Who actually needs quad-core in a phone? I doubt anybody really does.

That VM stuff that O2 is working on with vmware might come in handy for this. Something about two phone images that you can switch between, one for home and one for work. Your company has full control over the work image but you can do what you like with the home one.

I got the best deal.

I took out a sim only contract from vodafone for 19 quid a month. 600 MINS.unlimited texts and 1gb data.

After a few months i phoned vodafone and ask if i could upgrade my account to include a free handset s2. they said yes but my mobthly rental for the same deal was 35 quid.

I agreed to that. phone arrived a few days later but they have never put my line rental up. Im paying just over 20quid a monthly due to vat increase

contract expires in the summer though. hope when i apply for a new handset online it keeps my price the same

Unless they'll ask you to pay back the difference if you want to keep the headset. You wouldn't be so cheerful then. :p

One of the most highly anticipated phones, the Samsung Galaxy S3, has been benchmarked, Pocketnow reports. And the big news is it won't have a 1080p screen. Boo!

This contrasts with earlier reports that claimed the S3 would have a 1080p screen. The processor is also slightly lower specced than previously rumoured. While these would be annoying if proved true, they wouldn't detract too much from what promises to be a fantastic handset.

The handset benchmarked is the GT-I9300, which is most probably the model number of the Galaxy S3. The screen is listed as 1,196x720-pixels, which would give it the same resolution as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. But sadly it'd fall short of the 1,920x1,080-pixels reported previously. The benchmark says the processor is 1.4GHz -- again, lower than the 1.5GHz previously rumoured -- but it doesn't say how many cores it has. It's a Samsung Exynos processor, and my money would be on it being the quad-core variant.

It has the same Mali 400 MP GPU as the Galaxy S2, though it should be clocked higher. This should mean it maintains the S2's frame rate, but with the extra pixels making the images sharper. Ice Cream Sandwich should also come as standard, which is a boon, especially given how few ICS handsets we saw at Mobile World Congress.

Of course none of these specs are concrete. They could even be of the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus that's tipped to be announced later this month, though that won't run Ice Cream Sandwich, according to previous rumours. I think the S3 will be a great handset even if it is slightly lower specced than anticipated. The S2 was one of the standout phones last year, we can't wait to get our hands on the follow-up. The latest rumour is that should be next month sometime.

Unlikely, imo. a 720p screen has 40% more pixels than the current s2 - it's going to need a substantial clock increase to at best keep up with the s2's framerates. I'm pretty sure the S3 will have something better than a overclocked mali400.

I can't believe anyone actually believed that 1080p screen rumour :D

Oh, both the 4212 and 4412 should hit the FPS buffer on Egypt Standard @ 720p.

...But the 1.4GHz certainly suggests the quad core SoC, so hopefully we'll see a T604 GPU too.
