***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

The more i think about getting a S3 the more i'm beginning to think about the one X, i just don't Like AMoled screens :(

I'm just hoping there is a jump in screen tech for the S3

Crazy person alert!!

There are a lot of people like that actually.

I like AMOLED screens, but I think IPS LCD ones are better.

If we just get the Nexus screen on the S3, then that will be a disappointment (despite the fact that it's very good).

I guess but the Nexus screen is perfectly fine and I'm certain the s3 screen will trump it.

Also I'm quite picky when it comes to how I see things on screens and how I hear sounds on audio equipment and the s2 screen has been a joy to use so far. I only wished for 720p from day one really and I thing more.

Grainy, over saturated and not really that sharp, also high power usage on anything other than black :)

Put a Gnex next to a one X and i'm sure you would see the difference

If everything else was the same just screen difference I'd still choose the AMOLED. The S3 is 319 ppi anyway and that's nigh on perfect.

Vibrant colours are a bonus.

The HTC one S has great battery life and this is with a SAMOLED qHD screen with vibrant/bright colours being displayed (stock sense) and a lot of whites throughout the sense UI i.e. messaging, contacts list, gmail, youtube etc.

Here is my battery usage:

This is with a few texts, 10-20 min of video, fair amount of browsing, installing lots of apps and tweaking and changing everything about, GPS, camera etc. and brightness was at 70-85% brightness for about 1-2 hours and dropped to 50% for the rest of the time, however, I didn't have my SIM in for the first hour of use (testing the mobile first to make sure it worked ok), wifi was on constantly as well.

And best of all, this is from my first charge! :D

I have disabled a lot of sense apps though and some other stuff.

EDIT:

I rebooted the mobile once as well, so the mobile has actually been on since 15.00 or some time around that :p

Second charge and here is my battery life now:

Pretty much the same usage except a fair bit more browsing was done and a few games (angry birds and ROM emulators) and brightness was at 50% the entire time.

And I imagine that Samsung will use a black theme throughout the UI for messaging, system settings etc. just like on the GS 2 (excluding the launcher :p)

God, I want a One S! Why U no add bigger storage options HTC  Samsung better announce that ~4.3"/Exynos 4212 phone with a sexy aluminium body and SD card slot on the 3rd

AMOLED power consumption is extremely variable, it's very rare your stuck on all whites. For comparison the BBC news front page contains 60% whites, so the AMOLED screen will use ~300mAh more but this forum only has around 1% so it uses ~400mAh less at max brightness :D (based off Interek figures using a 4.5" AH-IPS and 4.3" sAMOLED+. Note: not many phones have efficient LED backlit screens like the One X/iP4)

The One X screen does seem to really pound the battery, but the auto brightness seems over the top (keeping it far too bright most of the time) so I'll set it to 40/50% for my next charge and see if it helps much.

It's totally worth it though. :D

I whack screen brightness to 100% on any phone I use. I aint compromising on screen brightness to save battery; the battery life should be sufficient to allow me to use 100%!

Your eyesight must be poor if you need 100% brightness! It's way too bright for ease of use and reading at anything above 50% on my S2 and the Desire before it but for outdoor use in daylight it's fine.
