***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Has anyone used an SGS III as a hotspot to tether with an iPad?
I've not found anything conclusive to say it works, but I assume it should do?

Quick ics browser is awesome

Shame it isn't fully jb compatible yet

I'm back to ics now. Will wait for official jb before flashing again.

Gents

Whats the speaker like on the S3 and the headset for music and voice calls?

Thanks

Speaker is clear and loud, the headset is rubbish compared to proper earphones but fine for voice call usage and only the very basic of music listening. Bundled earphones are never good. That goes for "BEATS" earphones that HTC ship as well.

New OTA update for 4.1.1 XXDLI1, Release Date: 03-09-2012 (Region: BTU)

from XDA:
* transparency bug still there
* swiftkey works
* led brightness reduced(seems this will be the same for future)
* new green icon for registering updates
* wifi is working good
* smoothness on par with lh9
* same gallery(not the new one like note 2)

Been using this LH1 update all day yesterday at it been working great work me so far. Only problem I had was that the keyboard default returned to the Samsung keyboard after a reboot.

I found that freezing "Samsung Keyboard" with Titanium Backup makes SwiftKey3 stay as the default keyboard after a reboot. (SwiftKey3 is the only other keyboard I have installed, I presume if you have Swype or whatever installed it will also work. )

I figured it was worth a try 'cos I could easily defrost "Samsung Keyboard" with Titanium Backup if it didn't work or caused any problems, but it seems to work just fine.

I've just checked the one I used for the S2 and it doesn't appear to work. I think I remember others saying this was the case :(

**EDIT** Has anyone tried one of these? It actually looks like a better option as you don't need a seperate HDMI cable. It says it's compatible with the S3, I might give it a go...

**EDIT2** I see some comments saying it doesn't work on the S3 :(

MHL Pin layout is slightly different on the S2 compared to S3 hence the compatibility issues. Best bet is to get the official s3 one. Although wireless is the way forward, but the box hasn't been released yet.

It should work without any issue - it's a bog standard feature.

With that logic you could potentially wait forever.

Just like with computer components, you pick a decent spot where the components you want are not quite at premium release day pricing and you buy them.

The S3 is a great phone, it will still be a great phone in a year, regardless of what is released after it. The S2 is still a great phone and will likely be just fine in a years time as well.

The Nexus devices tend not to push the boundaries of new hardware like the S devices do each year. Also, with Jelly Bean already here, I'm not sure what the next Nexus will really be for? Usually it's to launch the next version of Android...

Yeah, at home I can simply hit that button in the corner and it plays on my TV wirelessly. It's a shame they didn't do what Sony did and just have a mini HDMI out on the phone. I guess that's the one thing the S3 misses...

On the verge of installing the latest JB Rom. Ive backed up and its recommended to do a full wipe when installing. If I have problems can I just reinstall the backup and return to normal? :confused:

Im certain I can just reinstall but the more I think about it the more im confused. I dont want to lose my stuff :)

If you've made a full backup through CWM, then you can just wipe and reinstall that as it's a complete image of your phone.

Ergh, clever people, any idea what this notification icon is?
