***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Battery life is very good but I have noticed a few bugs in PowerAMP whereby it may sometimes randomly crash or pause playing. Also the notification bar controls area is transparent occasionally too.

other than that though everything seems just fine.

Draw Something is no faster though. I blame the game update.

When is jelly bean out for the S3 guys? what are the main new features of the update? Imsorry for the n00bness but only recently switched from iPhone to android so still brushing up on the android operating system.

Just got off the phone with T-mobile

15 minutes spent listening to crappy pop music, jesuuus.

Anyway, apparently there is a problem with Skype right now for all T-Mobile customers, and that they're working on it.

I hope that's not just fluff. >_>

Just as an update for CM10 users and those wanting to move, kernel sources for the i9305 (quad core LTE S3) have been released, and the memory leak has been sorted for the i9300. The next nightly (not 20120918) will have all of the fixes included.

Any advantages of cm10 would be more usfull, seriously whats the point of buying a htc or samsung phone and making it back to aosp??

All you get in both is less features and make what ever phone more equal

Because the HTC and Samsung phones have superior hardware to the best Nexus?

If you don't use the extra Sense/Touchwiz features then getting rid of them in order to get upgrades long after Samsung/HTC decide to stop releasing upgrades is an easy choice to make.

The features that Samsung are building in are relatively gimmicky now however, and they have not, in my opinion, managed to get the UI anything close to decent. I bought the phone because it has pretty much the best hardware out there (taking all things into consideration), very good battery life, and a big dev community.

CM10 and other AOSP ROMs have the advantage of generally being far lighter, a bit faster, and having a better user experience than the stock ROMs (for those that feel Samsung are poor in this area - Google are doing great work, Android 4 is absolutely brilliant). I personally like CM because it builds in tweaks that I need (Quick Toggles and Notification LED options into the OS), nothing less, nothing more.

I would have said that before Android 4, modified stock ROMs may have been better, but personally I really see no reason to use anything else now.

That said, this is my opinion.

I kind of agree with Bradmax in some ways.

As great as stock android is, there are a number of things that are usually much better on touchwiz and sense i.e. the camera (camera UI, features etc. are awful on stock IMO and for the one series phones the quality is considerably worse too), gallery, calender etc. and then you have the tweaks i.e. touchwiz smart stay features, etc. although you can get these features via apps now :p

I agree that some if the features are improved, basically always the camera, but aside from this I don't really see anywhere were the stock ROMs are leaps and bounds ahead of the AOSP alternatives.

For those interested, here is the experimental release of CM10 with the memory leak fix. The next nightly will incorporate these fixes.

I'm currently downloading an official Firmware update via Kies...... ;) I see no reason why this won't be JellyBean - it's highly unlikely that they'd release an ICS update at this stage, right?

[edit]
Ok, finished updating - details are:
PDA:LH3/PHONE:LH1/CSC:LH2

It's definitely still ICS(4.0.4) :'( but it's got the jellybean notification panel... small mercies eh?

Samsung's calendar is awful IMO. Contacts is... okay... but for me the camera is the only thing they've really improved. The rest I prefer stock Android and I install stock versions where possible.

What's wrong with Samsung calendar? other than the background colours I find it better specced than AOSP calendar and I use Google cal for everything daily. AOSP contacts still doesn't support managing users in groups from what I can see.

Recently my phone ground to a complete halt, it was slow and functions would stop working every day (keyboard would not type, alarm did not sound, scrolling through took an age). Uninstalled most apps but could not find the issue.

Had to reset to factory and now good. Anyone know what can cause this to happen so can avoid in future?
