***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

see my post with a how to install a rom, Best thing is to try a rom and see how it feels for you.

Temasek Rom is the most feature rich and fairly stable CM11 base as are most s3 roms (unless you go AOKP)

Installed Cyanogenmod 11 (Monthly Snapshot M6). It's running pretty smooth. I have yet to find a bug.

I may test temasek's unofficial CM 11.

I've used the latest version of TWRP as my recovery and installed the official Google Apps package from the Cyanogenmod Wiki page. All working perfectly.

I also made a backup of my previous stock ROM through the TWRP recovery.

Guys can anybody advise on how to fix a possible bricked sgs3?
Basically installed custom rom on other half's phone donkeys ago.
Working perfectly up to now, at first phone did not charge and now wont turn on except for a white screen.
Can put it into download mode ect.
Tried to change firmware/rom via odin but fails and says no pit partition.
Cannot find stock rom/firmare anywhere.

Which SGS3 have you got? (BTU/Unlocked or specific network carrier)

Have you tried checking samsung-updates.com for the specific ROM/firmware type for your SGS3.

Additionally there is sammobile.com (which is a more advanced website if you ask me).

*CAUTION!* (try this last part after you have done all of the above at your own risk)

I would also advise you into resetting the binary count in download mode (if binary count is past 0). How do you achieve this? Well it is pretty straight forward and you'll have to download something called triangle away (latest version is triangle away v3.26 as far as I know).

You'll have to find and research on how to flash stock recovery to your specific device and model number.

I would also perform a factory reset and wipe data/cache, etc from the stock recovery menu once you have reflashed the stock ROM/firware which is either 4.1.2 (if you want stability in my eyes). Alternatively 4.3 (which is buggy for an original firmware).

I'd install cyanogenmod 11 (mentioned in one of my previous posts), or alternatively cyanogenmod 11 (temasek's build v79).

Updated to Temaseks V79 and having tons of issues. Home button wont work, lock screen doesn't work, settings won't remember. Rolled back to V78 adn even 70 and still having issues. Might have to do a full wipe :(

Given up on the phone after finding out Samsung won't be updating the phone to Kit kat. I think I had enough with touchwiz after 20 months owning the phone. Rooting will not be an option as I'm heavily dependant on the barclays banking app. Bought the iphone 5s and saying goodbye to android for now. It was (mostly) good while it lasted.

Any problems like this you should always do a full wipe, when you re install the ROM and it goes through the setup say NO to google backing up/restoring your data as this is known to cause issues with ROM swapping.

you need to reflash the Original firmware via Odin, download it from SAMMOBILE as long as you get the international i9300 generic firmware there will be no problems.

Basically the partition information table (Pit file) has become corrupt, on XDA you can download the pit file for reflashing the information to make it work.

Slimkat is the best no frills ROM about at the moment. Temasek's is good but to many possible problems with current builds.
Thanks BigBoy for recommending SlimKat.
I've been using it for a week or so and it's excellent. I've tried CM10/CM11/Temasek in the past but aways gave up and went back to Sammy based ROMs quickly, this SlimKat is great though. Since the current build (v4.9) it supports ExFAT file system SD Cards too, which was the stumbling block for me previously.

Anyway guys, give it a try if you're looking for something away from Samsung based ROMs.

I'm loving Temasek's CM 11 v79 build. It works like a charm without no problems and my phone feels a lot smoother prior to the Official Samsung ROM.

A lot of features and good overclocking, underclocking and battery saving features. Of course you only get these as an add-on if you flash (install) Boeffa's kernel (v2.3 beta), as well as installing the Boeffa-Config V2 App from the Google Play Store.

I've got an additional question about rooting/root access. I know CM comes pre-rooted, but I want to have full root access rights and wonder if I'll be safe to root my device using auto root or safe root. Although will I be able to reset/wipe and erase the flash binary counter in download mode after rooting it?

I know there is no KNOX in the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300's system, so you can't trip or void the warranty if you know exactly what you're doing.

If you're rooted, then you already have full access rights? :)

Still having some troubles with the Temasek Roms on v79, Notifications get stuck and i go to a black screen for a few seconds, (not as long as V75 but still there) Sometimes the phone restarts because of it.

Sometimes when it crashes it kicks off the bluetooth service and i have to re-enable it, which is a tad annoy since my pebble watch throws a hissy fit about being disconnected.

I have a feeling it may not be the Rom, not that i have any clue what im talking about, but memory seems like a just culprit. just on the home screen, it shows around 800MBs Ram usage with less than 80MBs left, which im not sure if thats anything to be concerned about.

Don't do this, the ROM already has full access its not worth the rusk of bricking you device!

The memory leak is with the new lockscreen from CM and is not a Temasek Specific problem, there is a fix in the works from CM and is in the test build that will be up in an hour or so on Temaseks hop to.

Tasty, it did always go to lock screen after crashing, I'll keep an eye on his page. Cheers mate.

looks like the test build is out. http://temasek.hopto.org/?dir=Samsung Galaxy S3 - i9300/CM11.0/

Giving it a try now.

Cheers guys. :)

P.S. I'll download the latest update when it is fully tested and working. It's still in beta testing mode.

I'm also wondering how I will keep all my current system's apps and data when I re-flash the new build/ROM/firmware (v79.2). Can anyone help me?

I've always flashed over the top unless instructed to do a full wipe.

If you flash over the top, all your apps/data will remain.
