***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

So far so good on v79.2, early days, but not a single crash yet.

I usually just install Rom and Gapps without clearing anything else out.

What sort of themes are available? would you just get them through the play store?

Yeah search on the play store for CM11 themes.

Sometimes when flashing over the top you end up with bits left over from old builds that can cause conflicts so best to format system and cache, always wipe dalvik or you will get many many errors on screen especially if you change DPI at all.

Temaseks current Commit to fix the memory leak is only a temp fix see Here

***********FLASHING GUIDE***********

How to flash an s3 ROM from stock firmware!

**********************************

Download the following files:-

Recovery :- Philz Touch Recovery
ROM :- Temasek CM11 Nightly Build
Google Apps :- SlimKat Gapps Package
Kernel :- Boeffla Kernel

Save All files in a folder on your EXTERNAL SDCARD not the internal memory!

Flash Custom recovery as shown here

Just dont root using the recovery always say no!

  • **IMPORTANT**
  • ALWAYS make a Nandroid back up before flashing a ROM its your only way back to a fully working state!
  • If you want to back up and restore App data use Titanium Backup * Root (must have root access to use this app)
  • Best Text Message backup app I've found is MyBackup no root is needed :)

  • Boot into recovery (volume up+home+power)
  • Wipe Data/Factory Reset
  • Wipe Cache Partition
  • Mounts and Storage and format /System and /Preload
  • Advanced and Wipe Dalvik Cache
  • Select "Install zip" and browser to your downloaded zip file.
  • Now select the Temasek XXXXXXXX.zip file you copied to your external Sdcard /storage/sdcard1
  • You will have Temasek CM11 installed
  • Install Zip SlimKat_GappsXXXXX.zip in the same way
  • You now have Google Play store and some Base Google System Apps
  • Install Zip Boeffla_KernelXXXXXXX.zip in the same manor
  • Congratulations you are almost there
  • Reboot System now

The system will need to rebuild its self so will take some time for first boot to become ready and stable enough to use and finish setting up (full OOBE restart)

Dont forget to install Boeffla Config V2 App so you can control your lovely new phones power usage. :)

Thank you very much for this mate, very helpful :)

I'll test other ROMs out for myself. I'm doing research on it right now.

I'm tired of Samsung and their useless firmware updates. Leaving the Samsung Galaxy S3 without updates for almost half a year - prior to android 4.3 having numerous bugs running on the S3.

I hope Samsung update the S3 to 4.4 in the end. I feel it coming.

Has anyone got experience with CM11 and SlimtKat?

I'm looking for a stable OEM+ ROM essentially :)?
I'm using SlimKat on my S3. It's great. The phone is a lot more responsive compared to any touchwiz rom. SlimKat seems rock solid too, unlike my experience of CM10/11.
It took me a while to get it looking how I like but no looking back now. Give it a try !

Cheers thing I will give it a bash

I was running slim for about two weeks kn my s3 but didnt like the nova launcher so went back to omega rom, I have been running Temasek's cm11 for ages now and find it better than Slim.

Cool I looked at Temasek's ROM's but would prefer if there was a confirmed up to date stable/final version

Temasek will never do a final version as long as CM11 is updated nightly he will update with the new binarys, as for stable v69 was the most stable I found although its getting much better now. That said unless you want to become a flashaholic like me then stay away from Tema's ROM!

It gets tiring flashing updates every week. I want my phone to use for a while without any flashing of ROMs. I suppose I will wait until stable CM11 comes out near to the end of this year. Hopefully I'll be able to install and start using it on my Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300).

I will try the SlimKat ROM later this week.

CM11 stable has been out for ages, I just prefer the extras Temasek offers on his ROM, and to be honest the nightly CM11 builds are 90% stable.
